Firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong part of the forum,

my ASUS EAH4870's fan just died, and its not really worth RMA'ing

Whats the best cooler to replace it with? Also, i cant go wc'ing and i cant have it tooo loud :)

Does seem to be the consensus for these cards.

Any more info on the fitting of this to a 4870? One of the reviewers says

Other reviewers tried to file down the one heatsink that interferes with the heat pipe, but I just stuck it on slightly offset

Neither of these prospects sounds particularly appealing.

Also are these worth it if over the stock cooler?

+1 for this! Make sure you have good case airflow too tho as all the aftermarket coolers for the 4870 can leave the VRM temps running hot.

+2 for this!
AND to get the crazy VRM temps under control, I got myself a zalman ZM-RHS70 VGA FET Heatsink for less than £7 delivered. Although it is quite tall it slots into the heat fins on the cooler.

I cut a small corner off of one of the heatsinks with my dremell in less than a minute and it fits like a charm.
