I wonder how effective "slogans" are in the modern world how many of you know them off by heart without actually buying any of their products. So what I'll is start the slogan off and see if you can all finish them:

[1] "Gilette: The best........"
[2] "Tesco: every........."
[3] "Guiness: Good things........"
[4] "Microsoft: Where do you .............." (a bit old school that one)
[5] "Mr Muscle loves................."
[6] "Natwest: Surely there's...................."
[7] "Halifax Who gives................."
[8] "Maybe she's born with it........................." (a bit girly that time)

Obviously there are more (please post them) but whats more important for brand identity a logo or a slogan / gingle? Just shows how much useless carp we all store!

1 - ....a man can get
2 - ....little helps
3 - ....come to those who wait
4 - ....
5 - ....the jobs you hate
6 - ....
7 - ....you extra
8 - ....maybe it's maybeline

Like the Intel jingle; BING! ba-bing ba-bing

I remember reading how Intel commissioned a composer to come up with something that conveyed inventiveness etc. He got paid $$$ for it.

The marketing term for this is a "sonic identity"!!! -fact.

i know 6 out of the 8 but have only actualy bought from 2 of them 1 of which i diddnt know thew slogan :p never seen a microsoft ad until the other day

tescos because its closest to my house and microsoft because theres no realistic alternative (im gunna get lynched by the maccys :s )

[1] "Gilette: The best........ but not as good as King of Shaves"
[2] "Tesco: every......... body knows that ASDA is cheaper"
[3] "Guiness: Good things........ come to those who don't drink what is effectively marmite topped with shaving cream."
[4] "Microsoft: Where do you .............. alternatively want to buy software from when we run the planet. Mwa hahaha." (a bit old school that one)
[5] "Mr Muscle loves................. the jobs that lazy b******* can't be arsed to do"
[6] "Natwest: Surely there's.................... something seriously wrong with our paymasters at RBS"
[7] "Halifax Who gives................. a FF about how much taxpayers money we have borrowed"

Have I got any right ?

I got most of them. None of it makes me want to buy their products any more than I had originally intended though. Advertising doesn't work on me.

I can finish all but one of those (Microsoft) but then again iv been brought up with it so they have little or no effect on me.

That's the trouble with with advertisement bombardment from a young age, they learn to ignore it. Actually the only thing that registers my attention are those top layer semi-transparent floating ones that scroll over in the centre of the page. American site are the worst for those, people deserve to be tied up and hurled off a bridge for having those on their sites.

I got them all straight away except for the Natwest one which took a bit of thought, I think it's been abbreviated now?

I've bought products from all of them except Gilette and #8.
The only ones where I'd say the advertising had a significant impact on my decision to buy are Mr Muscle and Halifax.
