So many of you seem to be upgrading on a regular basis - what do you do with the old stuff ?
I guess many sell it on - tell me where ?
I know there is a place here for loyal forum members and once you have made however many posts you can access it to sell or buy, but until you are allowed there what do you do ? I know that by the time I get to however many posts are needed I will have got my pc just where I want it, so won't be buying much anymore (short term) ..!
Clearly ebay may be a place to look, but I would rather know who I am buying from in some way.
I hope this thread is not aganst any rules, and apologise if it is...

the section on here is the members market, have a look in FAQ,
to gain access you need:
Access to the Members Market forum requires two things. Firstly, you will need to have over 250 posts and have been signed up for at least 90 days. Please note that this does not mean you spam the forums simply to increase your posts, as this action will result in posts being deducted, and if you continue this behaviour, your account will eventually be banned/suspended. Once you reach 250 posts, you will need to activate your trust. This is either found in your UserCP, or you can press the trust button that appears at the bottom of all your posts.

In order of preference,

To friends either as they are or once ive stocked up enough to put together most of a PC I might do that and sell a whole base unit.

Ha - it has taken me 6 months to get to 100, so 250 is way off still - as for spamming my post-count - I doubt I am imaginative to come up with that much rubbish...!

Err... Ebay and other forums?

Previously i would sell my old base unit as one once a year. normally to a friend or a friend of a friend to fund "the big upgrade". any upgrades inbetween are either too little for me to care or i will check ebay to see what they sell for.:D

Buy the few bits you need to build a Complete system out of your old bits & sell it in your local rag for Beer tokens.

you haven't started off too badly :p

Am I that bad...??

OK, to be more specific, I am looking to buy something that I can't afford to buy new at present - a case - something like an Antec P180. I am about to rebuild my pc in an old case and am curious to see what a never case might offer while I save and research a new one. I want to try cable management, quietening, and just see how much difference a case makes - out here in Spain where I am there are no specialist shops where I can look at cases (there is a pc world 75 miles away mind..) and I don't know anyone who is into computers in any way. My wife works in the UK so can bring stuff out for me. Buying from Ebay is ok, but I would happily look at other places if I knew where..!

i'm only kidding mate :)

If you want cheap new/2nd hand parts best places to look are ebay or the for sale forums. As for shops you're best bet is to wander around your local town/city and see what they have to offer. it also comes in handy to know your local computer shops in case you need some thing urgently

Recemmending any where online other than ocuk is against forum rules

I guessed you were only kidding - my posts have brought intelectual stimulation, humour, excitement and fun to many. I'm telling you !

I also know that recommending other sites is against the rules, hence my last sentance in my first post, so I guess I'll be spending a few hours trying to find any other places that do sell second hand..
As for local shops - well, there is one place nearby - they do stock 3 or maybe 4 blank cd's, got their first flat screen recently, and it is run by a drongo who knows even less than me..!

Haha, maybe give that one a miss then! :p

But like most people have said, ebays your best bet. Ive sold old DDR RAM, CPU's and a few other bits on there and got alright prices for them. Also sold a few old bits onto my house mate when she was buying a PC, she's also after my monitor when I upgrade. Selling to people you know tends to mean minimum risk really
