Contact Lenses?

I had a free trial for a month with contacts and failed miserabley.. I broke a few and just couldn't get them in my eyes! Took me about 10mins in the mornings just to get them in! I gave up and went back to glasses..

I gotta say thank you, this has pretty much sold me into getting contact lenses. I really hate wearing glasses as they're very incovenient.

Next question!

I guess from feedback monthlys would be best. But what ones to go for?

I use Proclear 1 day and they are great, once you get used to putting them in it's really quick/easy and you can't feel them. I tried quite a few brands, including 'Acuvue 1 day moist' which dry out after an hour or so :\

You just gotta try different brands for yourself though, you can get free trials, I had about 20 pairs of trial lenses before I decided to go with proclear :D

get monthleys, they are a lot cheaper, and i see no advantage of dailys, having used both.

I use specsavers own, pack of 3 with small case and solution sent every 3 months in the mail.

i see no reason to get the expensive ones, £13 a month i pay, and they are always fine, never itch or hurt, and i wear them for long days, like get up for lecture at 8am, put em in, go out that night and take em out at 3am, and my eyes still feel fine.

i think there are different monthley ones, mine i am supposed to take out every night and put in cleaning fluid, which people say is a fuss but honestly it takes seconds to do.

i have slept in them a few times though, if ive crashed at someone elses house, and not had a problem with them being in whilst doing this.

also i have had them on in the shower, which is fine, never swam in them though.

lastly i dont clean them in my palm either, shove em in the pot and shake, they are fine like this.

What's the craic with the laser surgery and the fact that your eyes get steadily worse over time?

Everyone's eyesight gets worse over time. Having laser surgery neither stalls or hastens that process (as far as I know, feel free to link me to some evidence to the contrary). However, this natural deterioration usually happens around the age of 35-50yrs onwards. So if you are between 18-30, with eyesight that can be rectified by lasers, then the £500-£2000 you spend on sugery now might be less than the money you spend on glasses/contacts over the same time, with the added bonus of less "glasses/contacts hassle".

I'm considering in them, I hate wearing glasses and when it comes to summer I can't wear sun glasses :(

So what's the best ones to get, daily? monthly? etc.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I like the monthly continuous wear ones.

More comfortable than the dailys i found, you can sleep in them, and they seem to work much better.

you can sleep in them

Can you? Really? (no, I am not trolling)

It has only been 2 years or so since I had contacts and I was told unequivocally NOT to wear them at night, dailys or more permanent alternatives. Have human eyes evolved in that short time to protect from the diseases that I was, perhaps shock-tacticedly(not a word), warned about? Link me.

yes they are called "continuous wear" for a reason:p

they're designed for sleeping in so are more oxygen permeable, you have to change them once a month though.

it's not diseases that where the problem but low oxygen permeability that used to be the problem from sleeping in them, new materials solved this

Still no links. *remains unconvinced*

I have been wearing monthlies for years, can't fault them.

I am extremely short sighted at -10 in both eyes, it means I don't have to wear my mega thick glasses.

What brand "continuous wear" do you use?

Seems it is still at guinea pig stage. Ho hum.

long past guinea pig stage, they are quite popular, I've been wearing them for months now. you just need a few check-ups at first to get the right material and to make sure your eyes are ok with them.

Specsavers easyvision all day-all night

From your own experience, how long do you wear them for before deciding to take them out?

I'm not sure about you but I tend to suffer from dry eyes, especially in the mornings... and gradually get drier during the long day... I've been through Monthlys, 2-Weekly and now Dailys and am intrigued as to how "continuous wear" lenses would affect me?

I work on computers all day and currently wear my lenses for about 13-14 hours... with the "continuous wear" lenses, do they tend to feel like there's less of something on your eyes as opposed to the standard lenses? Even after a short nap on the train - when I open my eyes, they feel dry!
