I am in the process of thinking about getting a custom build done by OcUK, and was wondering how much of a difference I would see in both the above cards, as it will cost me another £114 for the jump from the 285 to 295, and wondering is the extra cost justified? What extra would I be getting?

if your using 1920* + then yes get a 285, and only get a 295 if your using ultra high res's (in my opinion)

I have a 22" screen, so will probably go to 1920* to be honest, and thinking that its either the 285 or 295, as I dont like the ATI cards at the moment, have always prefered the single card solution, as I will have an i7 2.6 when the time comes to upgrade.

Sounds like there is no point going for the 295?

the 295 is far far better value tbh, the 285 is the worst value card available. Go with the 260 if you really won't go ATi, £160 for that with most of the performance of the 285 for quite literally half the cost, its a no brainer. Your next logical option is 2x260's, after that the 295 loses some value but works in more mobo's being single slot. The 275 really isn't enough of a bump over the 260 either to be worth £40 more.

I'd say especially at only 1680x1050 the 260 is all you'll need.

If i where you, I would buy a 275, that will be more than enough for 1920, a 285 would also be more than enough for that resolution, either really! :D the i7 im buying now, i will be gaming on a 24", from my research Ive decided upon a 275 as opposed to a 285, and use the saving to buy a newer card along the line .. maybe in 8months time, as im like you and prefer single card solutions.

As drunkenmaster said the 275 price is high at the moment, im waiting on the nvidia drops before i purchase, if you cant wait get the 260! :D

This.

260/4870 -> 275/4890 -> 260 SLI/4870x2 -> 295

Skip the 285 completely. Unless you REALLY need the performance of tri-sli 285's, don't bother. Sure, it's the fastest single pcb (not card), but it's VERY poor bang for buck. 260 SLI or 4870x2 are both better performance for the same price.

295 imo.

I got one when they first came out.. and the drivers have seemed to increase the performance recently. Crysis @ 1920*1080 with CCC runs smooth :) (NO AA)

On a side note.. my GPU maxed at 90c.. is that ok lol??

The only reason why the 285 is £300+ is simply for the title: Most powerfullest single GPU solution avaliable in the world. So you'd be mad to get a 285 unless of course your rich or dont get care about how much a product is worth asapose to it's performance.

Go for 275 if your adamant with sticking with Nvidia.

I think the OP would be better off looking for a 280 in good working order. They're very powerful cards at a good price with the recent introduction of the 285.

What is CCC? The only thing I can think of is Catalyst Control Centre (makes no sense)
90 is pretty high, turn your fans up.
