Wheel Bearing Failure?

I've just driven down the motorway and I am now completely deaf - 40 miles of a really loud whining noise. Im guessing its a wheel bearing? It sounds like the drivers side rear but I always thought that a failed wheel bearing would mean the effected wheel would get really hot? Theres no heat on any wheel.

The noise starts at 30mph and gets worse the faster I go, theres slight vibration too but it doesnt matter if I turn left or right. Would people agree this might still be a bearing issue?

Cars a '99 Prelude with 107k on the clock (note: 4 wheel steer, but cant think of a fault this could produce)
Thanks :)

I had 2 bearings go within 4 weeks of each other on my Toledo and what you've described noise wise sounds exactly that.
Cost me about £80 each side to get sorted.

Jack the car up if you can and see if you can move the wheel from side to side with your hands ie a slight wobble. If you can then theres the answer.

Thanks mate, looks like I've got something to fill my Easter Monday with now :)

Reckon its probably best to get both sides sorted at the same time then, seems as they're both getting on a bit now.

Thanks!!!
