The Samsung OmniaHD i8910 ... this NEEDS it's own thread.

just imagine if they found a way to put android on it, well off to do a bit more research on the omnia hd

Android on the Omnia HD would be totally pointless. The G1 currently doesn't support video recording at all, let alone HD video recording!

Richdog sent me over from the n97 thread... I'm going to get the n97, it has everything I might want and more. Samsung? Samsung phones have always struck me as tacky, poorly made with boring OSs and funky chargers, not a fan at all. Never have been and never will be, I'm happy with my Nokia/SE close mindedness.

I'm going to get this phone :( Totally going to be first in the queue, it looks amazing, bang goes what I thought. One worry is that the menu system might not be as fluid as it should be, the old guy reviewer said it was even faster than the iPhone. Really? I'm using a Touch right now and I just can't see it. But that's it, the menu system.
What a great phone, I owe thanks to Richdog :)

I saw the make and thought [chuchill]oh no no no no[/churchill] and yet it looks great, I'm totally sold.
The main problem I've had with Samsung has been the lack fo config and 3rd party support, but since it's now Symbian that argument goes out the window. I'm in love AND it comes out soon.
I feel like i'm cheating on the n97...

how soon is soon for this thing?

im tempted

same here guys. i am looking to get this when it finally comes out. anyone have any reliable sources that have a release date, and how much are we expecting to have to part with to get one of these

Samsung make VERY high quality stuff... but as you say they've been held back by not always adotping common OS standards on their smartphones. They've done a WinMo Omnia... but Symbian is where it's at, and this will be sweeeeeet. Shame it's not higher rez though, this screen screams out for 800*400 or similar.

Soon = this or next month apparently...

I'm so torn though... i'd reall ylike a hardware keyboard... but this screen is just TOO damn good to miss out on.

450+ to start with SIM-free, and that will be for the 8GB version in all likelihood, with the 16GB adding a 50 premium.

The only site I've seen with a release date has it listed as the 25/05/2009 and with a price of £529.99 for the 8GB. They claim the RRP is £549.99 but another popular site lists the RRP as £599.99 for the 8GB so we'll have to see what happens in the coming weeks.

I had a good go on a capacitive keyboard and it was sooo much better to browse / type than resistive but I agree Richdog, a hardware keyboard would be excellent!

So i'm not sure whether to get it or not!

Well I had a really good play with my mates iPhone yesterday and found it really really good for typing... it was VERY responsive compared to my 5800... the slightest tap registered in a hit each and every time, no misses.

If the iPhone had a decent camera with video recording, removable battery, had some common basic features it's lacking, and wasn't so tightly controlled by Herr Jobs in terms of what people were allowed to do with it then I would buy one in an instant, as the UI really is a dream to use.

However... since it doesn'T have those things, the point is moot. I guess i'll just have to wait for the i80 and then have a real good play on it in a shop, and then do the same for the N97!

I was wondering what the process of upgrading firmware usually was with Samsungs...

Coming from a nokia N95 which still had new firmware released till recently weeell past its release date, will the phone be supported and developed after release by Samsung?
And might debranding be easily feasible?

Samsung's last Symbian phone allowed you to update the firmware over the internet and this one will be the same.

Not sure about debranding though.

I'm going to be controversial and say it's a shame they didn't put a resistive screen on it, which uses less power and more importantly allows you to use things other than flesh to control it. I was in the snow the other day with my Touch HD and it was a godsend to not have to remove my gloves to type or navigate, and the stylus is brilliant (far better than a finger) for the majority of games because it is far more accurate.

Yes it is *slightly* less responsive but not so muh you can really notice, and there is technology in the works to make resistive even better, with more response than a capapactive screen in the near future.

It's also a shame the screen resolution is so low (and also a bit of an odd resolution?) as browsing and reading large chunks of text could be a pain.

Overall, although the camera does tempt me it's not going to tear me away from my Touch HD (which i'm pleased about as I don't have to spend more monet :p). :)
