I blame the pope for some of this.. as an ex-catholic/religious nut, I can't see any reason behind their stance on condoms and safe sex. We've twisted religion for centuries to suit ourselves, yet they can't alter it to stop children being born into poverty and starvation.

and if they are such strong religious, they shouldn't have sex out side of marriage and should only do it to procreate blah blah blah. If they don't want to follow half the rules of the religion they follow, then why absolutely abide by the no condom rule?
Thats why we are brining immigrants in though tto counter-act it. They support this country.

or, global food supply is already tight - further droughts - starvation caused by supply shocks and subsequent wars as countries secure their own food production/supply.
or, peak oil begins to bite - countries stop exporting oil - for those without their own supply it becomes prohibitively expensive - global transportation of food stops - war.

The US population has increased massively over the last 25 years. Again, a large part of that is immigration.
I laugh at you know. Technolgy never stands still. all the time farming and resources are improving. soon we will be seeing new types of fuels come onto the market. we can still live comfortably even with a few billion more, not less.
No new fuel will ever replace what cheap oil does.
The world is running out of cheap oil and yes i know they is still loads to drill, but what will the world do while oil is 300 a barrell?
Peak oil will come faster now, as there is less investment drilling etc now as oil is cheap.
Its take about 7 years to get a good flow of oil from a well. By then we will be already in trouble.
ha-ha despite all the alternatives that have proved to work in small scale and work out as being cost effective. From shale energy to African based solar power.

Even if we had nuclear fusion right now, we would still need the stupid amount of developed land we need now.
Humans take up space, and no matter what tecnology is round the corner, it will not change anytime soon.
I LOL at the people that think no matter what the population is, the Earth will be ok. Such persons evidently have little to no idea what actual impact we truly have.
So what about all the products produced from oil?
Its not a case of running out of oil. We should have been replacing its use long ago with large scale project geared towards providing power to the country. By the time they start doing something it could be to late thats the problem.

Essentially we have to accept that all these alternatives are pathetic, and only viable in small scale projects.
