Hi all,

For a few months now, (with the setup in my sig) I have been getting constant BSOD's on the Vista loading screen ever since overclocking. It normally takes 2-3 attempts to get into Vista.

I have settled for a decent overclock of 3.7GHz, and I know that it's stable hence these results on a Small FFT's test in Prime95.

And the NB voltage is 1.3500V.

I still don't understand why it takes 3 attempts to get into Windows with a stable overclock. My RAM is on the QVL for my mobo so that should be OK.

And the high temp you see in CoreTemp is because the CPU was just winding down from the stressing.

Any help on sorting out this problem would be great, it's really starting to annoy me!

Thanks.

Vista seems quite tempremental with overclocks sometimes, I've seen vista bsod on prime stable overclocks while xp works with it fine, bizarre really.

Have you tried dropping back to 3.6GHz just in case, god forbid, Prime is not the be all and end all of system stability?

memtest86+ would be the obvious next step then, along with swapping out RAM sticks.

After that, assuming all seems to be well in the RAM department, start casting an accusing glance over drivers would be my next port of call. The loading screen is when Windows is loading the various drivers it requires, so it wouldn't be surprising if it was a dodgy driver that is causing an issue upon loading.

u burnt the image onto a cd so it is bootale yeh? restart ur comp make sure u have set first boot device to be ur dvd drive then when it says boot from disc hit a button and run it for as long as it takes :D alternatively if u have 4 sticks or RAM in run them one at a time to see which one crashes if all 4 do its driver issue:(

Assuming you've burnt the ISO properly (ie. not just added it as a file to a data CD):

Pop the CD in your drive, turn off the PC, when you turn it back on change the boot device order to CD/DVD first if you need to (probably already did that to install windows) and then when you get prompted you'll have to hit a key to boot from the CD.

It should be pretty obvious going from that point onwards.

Assuming you've burnt the ISO properly (ie. not just added it as a file to a data CD):

I think that is where I am going wrong. I popped in the CD, and clicked on the 'Burn files to disk using Windows' it formatted the disk and I dragged the .iso file onto the disk.

I restarted, went into the BIOS and setup the boot priority to CD drive first then restarted again. The drive whirred but nothing and I booted into Vista (with 3 BSOD's on the way of course)!

Download IMGBurn (its free) and burn the ISO using that. It's a very straightforward piece of software to use. Choose 'Write Image File to Disc' and the rest will be self explanatory.

As soon as I go into Memtest, there is a bit of testing, but then within seconds the PC just restarts. Is that a sign of problems?

However that is when I boot the 1) Single CPU (Default)

But when I boot 2) Multiple CPU (Experimental) I go into the main memtest screen, but nothing seems to be happening =/

Once again, sorry to be a bother.
