Morning guys ive just been on the phone to O2 Retentions trying to see what they can do to keep my business! Im currently paying £25 a month on my 2nd 18 month contract for 600 Minutes and 1000 texts.

I have been trying to get them to give me a decent deal but i dont think im being ruthless enough, but to be fair i was put on hold for a few minutes and she came back saying i could have The 16GB black iPhone for free, 600 Minutes and 500 texts for 35 per month.

I was trying to wangle either extra texts or £10 discount (which has been on my account for ages as they lied to me when i last upgraded about the cost and charged me more for ages!)

What would you guys suggest? Can i get better than this?

Cheers! Rob

As far as I'm aware you have to be on a £35 deal for the Iphone.

Thing is would you use more texts? people always go wow I got such a great deal 1000 minutes 6million texts. Then find out they will only use 300minutes and 500 texts. So what seems like a good deal is a rip off.

You should be able to get a much better deal if you change from the Iphone to another phone.

If i was to go into a retail O2 shop do you think they would do the same deal for me? Provided they have the phone in stock?

Having just called up it turns out i was lied to! Apparently that would be £45 a month and it would be a reconditioned handset. Not particularly happy with O2 now.

Nope, I think for the phone you are asking for they are pretty much giving you the best deal they have.
The only thing you could try is going on the o2 website, and looking at the online tariffs/package builder on there.

You should have taken the original deal when they offered it to you. Depending on the seniority of who you speak to it depends on the deal you get at that point when you ring up.
:)

Well she saved the deal for me and said i had 7 days to take them up on it!

That is a really crap deal for £35 a month.

I get, fair enough not iphone (don't understand why its so expensive anyway), £30 a month - 600mins 3k texts and internet.

Best thing is to keep trying. Did you try by dialing 100 in your phone? Try on this number 0870 600 7102, I think it goes to a different office and try your luck there.

Like I said just keep ringing and eventually you will find someone. I was lucky as I got a Blackberry Bold, 1200 mins, 1000 txts and Blackberry Internet for £27 a month on my first try. I was having some problems as they kept messing delivery up and rang them back so I could collect the phone in store. The lady was very helpful and I tried being cheeky and asked her to reduce my txts and give me more minutes and she goes let me try and add another bolt on. She added free O2 calls to that package as well for no extra charge. I then asked her to sort out my mums contract out, she is paying like £30 for 18 months, no phone but 200 mins, 400 txts and free O2 again! So it all depends on who you speak to really. Most of my calls are to O2 calls anyway so I hardly use any of my minutes now, now all my mates on O2 usually give me a missed call so they don't waste their minutes lol.

My contract is up around the 5th May and I am not sure if I can upgrade a month early but looking at the O2 website, I see that their tariffs are now 18/24 Month contracts. What happened to the 12 Month contracts? I only sign up to a 12 month contract so I hope that I can be offered this.

The iPhone is the reason why the offer was like it is, you can't compare it to a non-"free"-iPhone tariff.

You can talk to them now your in your last month.

12 month are still going but they end up very expensive so it's not worth signing up to one again also if this is your first renewal they will offer a sort of deal but try to get you to go at least 18 month min.

One of the reasons I want a 12-month contract every year is the fact that my phones just about last 12-months and no-more hence why I renew my contract at the 12-months entitling me to a replacement phone. Its the environment I work in that plays havoc on my phone. I will have to give them a ring and see whats on offer.

but if you got something like an Iphone surly it will be insured?

This is the first year I have signed an 18 month contract, always pushed for 12 months but the saving per month was a lot more so I was persuaded. Most important thing this time around was getting the cost down per month.

As for the phone I got (5800) it does feel plasticy so Im unsure whether it will last the 18 months but I have insurance through my bank account and is covered by an 18 month warranty through o2 anyway.
