Teachers demand 10% pay increase - Thoughts?

To those on about Iraq and Afghan... Why compare it to the armed forces? Are you saying that if teachers get the 10% rise, then no other public workers will get any rise?

"If you're not happy, get another job" - this attitude will cause quite a few problems for the UK as a whole, all kids will become idiots. All the decent teachers will leave, as they are the ones who work hard to ensure your brats leave school with some form of education. What will be left in the schools will be the teachers who couldn't give a rats arse about kids progression, kids will fail, those teachers will stay. Then what?

My girlfriend is a teacher, she get's nowhere near the supposed average salary. £33K is achieved after being qualified for about 9 years normally (outside of london). Also this average salary is probably skewed by high paid headteachers etc and workers in the london area.

Regardless she never moans about pay and isn't in NUT. She is in a more moderate union as she believes the NUT are too militant.

So I hope people don't read the headlines and assumes that teachers are money grabbing freeloaders! Most of them work damn hard for their money and do a good job.

How do they actually deserve more because they are teachers ??????

I think cleaners who wipe your hit off toilets deserve more money than teachers......not that I dislike teachers, but it takes more strength of spirit and determination to know you're gonna be cleaning peoples doo doo's all day than programming kids with rubbish.

I'm trying to put into perspective what teachers do and get paid at the minute, compared to just as other important jobs.

So someone who cleans up poop deserves more money then someone who is responsible for your* childs future and education ? and helping them develope as a person ?

mmm okay.

* don't know if you personally have kids.
