Hi, a friend of mine has been asked by his friend if there is a way to recover a password on his laptop.

I can't really get up there this week to do it, and tried the normal username administrator password administrator trick in windows XP and won't let him in.

Anyone know an easy to use lil program to help him find the password out? since it is a laptop obviously no floppy drive, but he could burn it to CD.

Since I won't be the one using it, and the person who will be isn't the most tech savy I would highly appreciate it if the application is pretty simple to use :p

Thank you good sir's (and Ma'ams) of OCUK :D:D

1.SpotMau Password Finder - Simple startup utility resets a forgotten admin or users' password using a familiar Windows-like program interface instead of command-line.
2.Windows Key - Top rated version of Passware's Windows Key app, supports Windows Vista and RAID/SCSI/SATA drives.
3.Petter Nordahl-Hagen's Offline NT Password & Registry Editor - A great boot CD/Floppy that can reset the local administrator's password.
4.Openwall's John the Ripper - Good boot floppy with cracking capabilities.
5.EBCD – Emergency Boot CD - Bootable CD, intended for system recovery in the case of software or hardware faults.

The above tools can be found:

Download Ultimate BootCD iso and burn the iso image to CD, then boot from it and use the NT Offline Password editor to kill the password completely.

Then put away the CD once finished as its great for CPU burn in, memtests, harddisk fault diagnosis and other nice toys.

if that machine is part of a domain,

1 - connect to network and turn on
2 - on another machine using command prompt, type 'net use \\LaptopComputerName'
3 - then type 'net user LaptopComputerName\administrator and then when prompted type in the new password.

Job done :)
