E9x Coupe vs. Cab weight difference - will it be felt?

Hi,

The difference in weight between a 330i Coupe and Cab is 235 kilograms - making the cab about 15% heavier than the Coupe.

The added weight makes the Cab 0.5 seconds to 60 slower, which is negligible to me, I'm not bothered about this kind of thing. However, how much of an affect is this kind of additional weight going to have on A, B road driving, cornering and the like?

When people say "Oh, the cab isn't as refined or as sharp as the coupe [or the saloon]", are they just commenting on the obvious differences (the usual cab compromises), or are they saying that the 3 series cab is a sloppy ride in its own right?

I've never driven a cab before.

Thanks,

Drive them both, in the E46 variant the difference wasn't noticeable to me..i doubt it is in the E9x's.

Apparently it is quite noticeable - the E92 has a folding metal roof remember which is much more complex and heavier than the canvas roof of the E46. It also upsets the weight distribution.

not driven a coupe but have a cab.
the car felt fantastic, if the coupe feels better then it must be one hell of a car :]

That is what I was thinking. Although with the roof down, on a fairly long car, more weight at the back wouldn't be a bad thing?

I can't find any proper review or analysis of this "problem" (whether or not it is a problem) on the web; only stupid videos that boner over the roof folding mechanism.

one thing to remember, the roof, when down, takes up most of the boot. so if you want a usable boot when the roof is down, forget it :p

I have an E92 335i and a friend of mine has the E93 330i, the convertible 330i was something I considered when I was buying my car but I decided I would look a bit stupid driving the convertible and after seeing my mate in his I think I made the right decision as he looks like a **** when he pulls up somewhere and everyone stares at him while his roofs folding away and then there's the fact that i'm a bloke with a beer belly and not a good looking bird which are the only people who should be allowed to have convertibles imo :D

Yup, its noticeable. Especaiily in straight line speed. Not to the point where you're like "OMG HEZ PWNED ME" but put it this way, 100kilos is what 16 stone, so thats two fairly large adults and a small child weighing your car down before you even start! Or, more generic, almost a 1/4 of a tonne.
