I have a:

Q6600
3GB Ram
720GB HDD
8600 GFX card
computer that i brought from PC w*** (big computer retailer) and i want to upgrade to a higher end graphcs card such as Asus Radeon 4850, 9850 but theres questions of PSU and stuff, i dont know what the psu is and i dont intend to unhook it just to find out but if it runs the 8600 fine then it should run the newer ones fine?

The 8600 will require less power than a 4850. The 4850 needs a "450 Watt or greater power supply with 75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended".

What model of 8600 is it? the GT or GTS? You can find out my downloading GPU-Z.

Newer gfx cards require a lot more power than an 8600, you could take the side of your case off, and have a look at the PSU, see if its got the ratings label on the side (as some do), and if so, post up what it says on here. :)

If the PSU isn't up to running a 4850 then maybe consider a 4670. This is a great card for running games at reasonable settings at 1680x1050 res and under. It is also fairly cheap and requires very little power.

There are even a few games in which it is nearly twice as powerful as an 8600.
