p182 humming from tricool fans

Just a long shot, in case you have not got sorted.

I have found the noisiest part of the Antec "P" range is the door. The little hinges are plastic and can rattle/hum quite bad.

On my 182, it does it regularly, esp when the door is closed. Ended up sticking some blu-tac near the hinges.

:)

Ok guys an update to the situation and I feel kinda stupid lol

Well the 2 noctua's turned up today and I installed them, one at top and one rear. They really are very quiet and I had them both running at 800rpm hooked upto the motherboards sysfan connectors. They made absolutely no difference to the humming I was getting although they do run quieter than the tricool's. Ive took the top one off and placed one at the front and one at the rear now. Just out of curiosity I unplugged my second harddrive and the humming stopped. It seems the vibration from the hdd was causing the whole case to rattle. So it looks like I'm gonna be needing a new harddrive, these are getting quite old now anyway.

I have the harddrives mounted vertically in the bottom chamber with the little silicon gommets in place, can this cause humming/vibration to a harddrive? Ive always just had them mounted horizontally before now. What hdd's would people suggest that run nice and quiet? Currently I have got 2 maxtor 250gb's although different model numbers

Cheers

Brilliant cheers setter looks just what im after. Do you run a couple of these and how do you have them mounted in your case?

I run one as my primary c drive, with my older, slower western digital caviar as a backup storage drive, both are mounted horizontally in the bottom drive bay on my akasa eclipse.

The bearings went on my tri-cools very early after buying them, had them changed to the orange tri-cools they are better now.
I had the same sound it did my head in, could not trace where it came from.

Yep same happened to me as well, this is why I now use either Koolance or Xcellence... Although I'm upgrading to Arctic Cooling fans instead which are suposed to be very nice.

its strange its rattling the case even with the rubber gromits provided by antec in place...

Well thats what I thought and guessed it must have been on its way out. I reseated it and it was still doing the same so unplugged it for a day and there was no rattling at all. I wanted to watch a tv programme I had stored on there so last night hooked it up again thinking it would do that same. To my surprise the humming/rattling had gone and has been ok since. Before I could actually feel the vibration on the top of the case, now it feels a lot calmer. I'm still going to replace both drives I think as I want more storage anyway but its quite weird how it has sorted itself out.
