Is the N97 ever actually going to be released?

This phone was announced what, 4 months ago? Is it ever actually going to come out or are Nokia waiting until its obselete before bothering to release it?

It has been delayed until around June so I heard.

From what i've seen, it will also double as a personal defense weapon.

When it was announced it was due to be sold in Q2, so June/May is exactly as scheduled. I believe its on course to be sold at the end of May.

What extra stuff does it offer over the N96? It seems insane how they can get so many things in a phone...

Much larger screen, faster GUI (hopefully), Improved dynamic home screen, QWERTY Keyboard (if that floats your boat), 32Gb Memory, FM Transmitter, Better battery life.

Sounds good, with any luck they'll give the cam a decent flash like they did with the N82.

a friend works for a phone company or related type of business and they got info that it will be released in july august 2009.

was originally announced q1, beginning of april, but then some event happened this year for mobile phones (i forget the name) and it was pushed back to june/july. sucks as i was due an upgrade in sepetember so i could have had another phone in this time and then lasted a few months for the n97 to come down in price.

what sucks is going for such a great phone like the n97 when it's time to upgrade again the only phone which will be classed as an upgrade will be one thats released in a years time then delayed a bit more.

It was announced two months ago at MWC, I believe. As people say, it was always slated for a Q2 release.

at mwc is was said q2 release, but always before that it was q1 release. not long now as long as there isn't a delay.

perhaps but none the less fox isn't wrong in thinking the n97 is taking longer then it should as it was slated for q1, maybe not be nokia but they certainly let people believe q1 for a long time until at mwc when they said q2.

It was never slated for Q1. The official press release says H1. Anything beyond that is pure speculation from bloggers and journalists.

i don't understand the point you are making, sorry.

in case people don't understand mine, i'm saying fox is correct in feeling like the phone is taking longer then expected because it was slated (by a lot of places) that it will be released q1. nokia never said q2 until mwc (if thats the event i'm thinking of) so it was a long time for people like myself and fox to keep seeing a q1 release date.

Then you should be waiting for official dates from Nokia, not random places trying to get a jump on things.
Can never take these kind of dates seriously unless it is straight from the manufacturer and even then sometimes it doesn't make it.
