A vertical strip represents the 7 notes of a scale. Therefore if you select the bottom left square, and select the square 6 notes above it, you will realise they are infact the same note, except they are at a different pitch.

Since they are all notes of the same scale, they will all sound nice together. It isn't so easy on a real instrument :p
I like the way all the notes in the scale harmonise... Do you know the scale used? It sounds a little like the pentatonic scale but now you've said 7 notes that's thrown a spanner in the works... ;)

Spot on! It is a pentatonic scale, and uses 5 notes rather than the 7 I previously mentioned. Thus this:

Try this:

Copy that, right click the tone matrix board and select paste.
