Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

That bug on PS3 is really annoying, if you send a message and go back into the game you sometimes carry on with the darkened screen and it doesn't go away until you reset, however just now I got the darkened screen after receiving a message mid-game, very annoying. (only had it happen after sending a message before though)

Rarely happens at least.
Never seen that issue before and Im always messaging or on the chat rooms while in SF4...

Only time something like that happened was RE5 demo after sending an invite and that was supposedly due to a long friends list (>50 error)...

ps3ud0 :cool:

I take back saying in the other thread about finding the joystick fairly easy to get to grips with. It is fine in training mode where you can think about things and take your time but during an actual fight you have to be quick and obviously a human opponent can be far more unpredictable. Practice makes perfect. I'm happy to fight anyone that wants to batter an extremely poor Ryu.

Cool, will try all three and see how i get along. I also seem to get lost a lot on the buttons and end up hitting MP instead of MK etc which is a pain. All down to practice i guess.

[EDIT] Tried the same way as you ojste and it's much better now, can actually do QCF more than 1 in 10 times... now it's 2 :p. You really can see how a stick is technically better, i've noticed that my button mashing has all but disappeared, i'm far more precise when executing combos, just can't get the stick movements quite right and the aforementioned losing my place on the buttons can be a pain.

I hold it completely differently, the stick between my ring finger and my middle finger (like at 1:05).
It works better from a standing position though, I'm still getting to grips [arf!] with a stick used while sitting, the different angle makes my grip less effective.

Anyone got any tips on how to use charge characters? It's really annoying me now that I can hardly ever pull off a charge move so I'm restricted in which characters I can actually play.

I'm using the stick btw, if that's any use.

Remember you can charge when doing anything except walking forward pretty much.

Try to maintain a charge at all times, obviously you can't always do it but you should be thinking of charging all the time.

For example when you jump you should then flick straight back to charging, I also use crouch for charging as walking backwards is not ideal at all.

If playing Balrog his jab combos also give you extra time to charge, also if you do an attack that is (charge) then down + up + button you can do it buy holding down back and then moving to down up and it will still come out and you will then immediately begin charging again. This is why you are able to do headbutt to ultra as Balrog.

not a bad read from a quick google

Right. That makes a bit more sense. I think my main problem is knowing how long to charge and I also didn't realise you can charge with crouching block.

Cheers, I'll let you know how I get on :)

learn the actually timing for charge attacks, its supposed to be ~1 second. ALWAYS maintain your charge and this does not mean you have to sit on downback all day.

when you are doing pokes/poke strings you should be charging. when you jumping you should be charging, when you do a special you should be charging again etc.

like margaret said, you should always be charging unless its physically impossible to do so such as when walking forward. remember that as long as you dont need to hold a forward direction, you can be charging ;). also take into acount there are ways to advance forward without having to literally walk towards someone.

Yeah, just been playing around with Blanka and Balrog in training and I seem to be getting the hang of it. I take it that charge characters are usually played more defensively and punish an opponent when they leave themselves open? Or is this not always the case?

Actually you can often do things like this for guile's sonic boom:
B (charge) -> F -> B+Punch

rather than:
B (charge) -> F+Punch -> B

epic guile FADC -> ultra at 0:52

That's actually not hard using the shortcuts, just like you can do this to do Ryu's FADC Ultra far easier:

FA -> F -> D -> DF -> F (let go of FA) -> D -> DF -> F +PPP

You only need to press forward once when in focus, rather than twice and the forward from the first QCF motion counts as the second forward to get out of focus. The same principle for guile but it's harder to write down :p

i dont understand how he fadc and ultra, i.e fadc whilst charging down for the ultra too??

guile does charge to do his ultra right? ive not played with him for a while

man its all complicated stuff lol

yea he needs to charge... he does it by charging first then FA, then the cancel is part of his input for his ultra... forward forward replaces down forward

i do it like db charge, FA, dash forward, db, uf, kkk

hard stuff, only managed it a few times >.< although a bit easier after i got experimentation down... i was trying all sorts before :p

You can buffer things, like B F F B F counts as the F F to FADC and the B F B F for normal blanka style charge ultras.
