Uni Parking tickets

That's completely evading the point though.

If there is a sign up saying you need to pay and display or display a permit... then you need to do that.

Whether the car park is empty or not is completely irrelevant!!!

You say that, but sometimes its an issue of commonsense and fairness.

Over easter I've used the staff carpark at our uni library, why? because its free! and empty, bar 3 or 4 cars. Now bear in mind this car park holds circa 175 cars. The penalty is unjust in my eyes. That stated there is no provision for us as students to identify our cars from those of the general public.

I can't complain though, my uni works on a 3 strikes and your clamped policy....Stiiiiiiiiirke one!

My Uni charges £3.50 per day for parking to anyone. Personally I think thats extortionate, it costs that much for a full days parking in the centre of manchester.

No, not at all really.
Quite often when I'm going through the Channel Tunnel the "Premium Check-in" lanes and waiting area are more or less empty.
The lanes that I am in are usually slow moving and full.
Should I just be able to go through the Premium Lanes even though I don't have permission to do so and it specifically says I'm not allowed to?

If I'm driving around town and the roads are solid.
To my right is a small road taking me exactly where I want to go.
It's empty, not a car in sight, but it's a one-way street.
So surely common sense says that it would be OK to quickly travel along there.

There are rules in place for a reason - you can't just pick and choose when you want to obey them and when you don't.

Christ that's cheap. It's between £7-9 for a days parking in Southampton.

Same.. i'd be more than happy to pay 3.50 for a days parking in some places i go, i think i dropped more than 3 quid in the other day in Greenwich for less than 2hrs! At my girlfriends place i think 20p buys you 10mins so thats 2.40 for the 2hr max stay.

£1 an hour at Sunderland Uni without a permit.

Sounds like I'm just a cheap arse then haha :D A lot of car parks in my home town are completely free and unlimited, which is where my comparison comes from I guess.

Now that this has happened you'd be daft to continue parking there, as the moment some one recognises your car they will want to see who is driving it. If they catch you, your in trouble!

Parkings about £7 a day in torquay, thankfully i know a few roads i can park on within walking distance of work, but sooner or later the council will end up making them permit holder only zones.

Which sucks considering most of the road side parking spaces available are already taken up by council workers (i work near the town hall) who have permits to park in the car parks for free!

At my Uni they've given out far more passes than spaces. Meaning if you go to Uni when it's a busy time (Monday-Wednesday mornings) you can find yourself with no where to park. There are loads of places in the car park you can park that isn't an official space but people always get tickets so I find myself driving round for 25minutes and missing lectures.

Bloody annoying!

I have to pay £180 a year for the permit and they suggest that if the car park is full I drive into town and use one of the £8 a day shopping car parks and walk for 20 minutes to get to uni.

My GF's Uni permit is £12 a year and she always gets a space and gets a parking space at her halls!

Parking permit at Sunderland Uni is free, which allows 20p per hour or a max of 60p for the day. Parking spaces can be quite hard to get sometimes though.

Yeh i know, i haven't parked there in about 4-5 months now. Hopefully should be able to wiggle out of this one by the skin of my teeth. :o

Am I right in saying that Soton Uni don't allow 1st year students any parking on campus/halls? Or do they just say that on their website/prospectus to stop undergrads from bringing cars?
