Ok, i dont want to start a flame war so all you fan boys can go and sit back down. Am i right in thinking that the two 4890's would be faster than the 295GTX?

they should work out about the same as the 295 but they may be slightly faster by a few fps but not much

the 295 is 2x 275 i think but the 4890 scale better from what i've seen so come out on top especially on resolutions over 1080p.

not sure tbh, you might find the 2 separate cards pull ahead, 2x4870's is faster than a 4870x2 in certain situations mostly because, you assume, being able to use 2 full speed pci-e slots rather than 1.

if you have the mobo setup and space then I think 2 separate cards have their advantages.

Though, you can get some stupidly cheap 4870 512's at the moment, so why not consider getting a 2nd for crossfire, sure I saw a 512mb going for £130 on a special deal very recently.

GTX295 should be a bit lower than 4890X2 due to its lower clock speed [compared to each single GTX275 in SLI] and reviews showed that http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ATI/HD_4890_CrossFire/1.html
but consider 4890X2 might take more space , should be consider for cable arrangement and air ventilation???]

also consider the price, would it worth because they are both the most powerful? or one is faster but then when future games come, that better still gives you nothing playable???

The 295 is 2x260gtx slightly overclocked iirc.

nope
GTX295 is really SLI GTX275 downclocked
as it has 2x240SP from the 280/285
and memory config of 2x448bit of the 260
=> the physical design is the GTX275, just low clock speed [for the reason of heat I think]

Just sold my 295 gtx and am waiting the hd4890 Toxic to come out ! depending on price i might get Two, didnt get along with the 295 tbh i think they have driver issues

IMO 2x4890 as each gpu and memory set has its own fan, in a 295 there is one fan cooling twice as much hardware. Plus this enables higher oc and better end results

I am also trying to decide between these two options as well, coupled with the fact i would want them under water and have to factor that cost in!

Id get the 2x 4890's/or even 2x 275's due to being a lot cheaper and being around the same performance.

I wouldn't buy a 295 now though anyway, as its getting replaced in a few weeks time (sometime in May) by a single card version, ala ATi x2's.

EDIT: Theres a 4890x2 coming out also as mentioned above, but not sure when that will appear, as ATi said they won't do one, but their partners can, so be a wait and see which one/ones do em.

knew about the 4890x2 but as its going to be by partners i would imagine waterblocks won't be coming out for it unless a pre-made one was done.

Anymore information on the single card dual gpu 295 replacement? Wouldn't mind holding out for that!

Currently on my x48 board but looking to go i7 sometime shortly so NV are crossing my mind

EDIT: and the fact my 4870x2 has died on me so looking to get a card shortly anyway

No they haven't.
Have you tried connecting to hdmi via dvi out ? its the only digital input i have on my monitor and using this gives colour corruption and wont auto scale , " not a problem on my ATI 3870X2 "also the same when i connected to my Sony TV using the same kind of connection , i had the card RMA replaced and still the same!! Also tried different Mobo, ram ,Processor ect and every Nvidia driver on the planet

No such problems here with my 260GTX SLI which is for all intents and purposes fairly similiar to a 295.

If it wasn't for the price I'd say 295 all the way (massive overclocking headroom), but the price just nulls any performance advantages.

Glad to hear that , if you read the release notes on some of the beta drivers it mentions this issue and for me it never got fixed , as far as i am concerned nvidia ran of time, i nearly went for the 4870x2 and i wish i had, just hope the hd4890 in xfire is better for me in any case
