The Nokia 5800 Express Media (Tube) Thread

Where is the bit for selecting the ringtones for calls and txts and that though. I cant find it! Im used to nokias, so I must be being blonde! :p
Nope I just did it! Was being far too impatient!

Ha loving the 3D ringing tone effect, fly by!!

Is there no standby screen that lets you see if you have any messages or texts waiting for you. I used to have a little bar on the screen when it was just sat there that would show me a little envelope or phone sign if I had a missed call or a txt.
The screen just appears to go blank.

Ok I have my first sensible question.

If I am replying to a PM someone has sent me on a forum how is there a quick way to get rid of the txt they have sent me? And why when I try and write on a new line (by selecting the enter symbol as I used to do on my other phone) does it not move the cursor down to the next line.
Basically I need any hints and tips for writing things on the internet, forums etc.

Loving the web browsing though, looks like the iphone display wise.

There is no standby screen for that but the app mentioned a few posts up makes the LED's on the front of the phone flash when you have a text or missed call.

Not sure how true this is... probably just a rumour imo... http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/...ated-5800-xpressmusic-with-capacitive-screen/

Nokia prepping updated 5800 XpressMusic with capacitive screen?

by Chris Ziegler, posted Apr 17th 2009 at 3:16PM
It's certainly not unheard of for Nokia to take existing models in its lineup, tweak 'em with slightly improved hardware and software, and re-release them -- see the N85 / N86, N93 / N93i, N95 / N96, and so on -- so we can totally buy that the company's hard at work at updating its 5800 for a future revision. DigiTimes (which admittedly doesn't have a pristine record for nailing these sorts of rumors) cites "sources" with Taiwanese component suppliers as saying that Nokia wants to replace the 5800's resistive touchscreen with a capacitive one -- the S60-based Samsung i8910 does that, by the by -- in an effort to better compete with its rivals. That would certainly make the device more usable and responsive, but in all likelihood, this isn't a simple matter of swapping out a component (how would you use that totally awesome plectrum, after all?) so we'd expect this to be more of an indication that Espoo's looking to move to capacitive going forward, particularly as it transitions over to the Symbian Foundation's builds.

I have been using mine since yesterday, really happy with it so far.

The only thing I wish is that I could tap the screen anywhere to get into the menu, is that possible? I have set up a short cut to it for now. Never thought I would like touch screen phones but here I am lol.

Okay, first complaints and questions. How do I insert a carriage return? I can't get the return symbol to work. Second, does anyone else find the phone gets upset with image heavy pages? I've had two crashes and several long pauses when the phone gets busy downloading large amounts of text and images. It's so bad i've turned images off, but this makes a lot of them lose their formatting. Any tips?

Liking mine - had it since Friday.

However I got a text this morning and noticed that all the texts Ive recieved this weekend have vannished including my sent texts!! Ive not deleted them.

Anyone have this? Also case is a bit creaky.

For some reason my other O2 sim doesn't work in the phone! i just get "Offline" at the top of the screen. Does this mean i need a new sim? It works fine in my other phone...

Aye. That app is great. All the buttons flash until you open the missed call/message.

Depends on the age of the SIM.

Richdog, just away to check for firmware updates now.

2 years old, problem?

Possibly. I remember having to "upgrade SIM" a couple of times, but this was back in the days when things like 3G, WAP, MMS etc. meant network changes.

Best bet is to take it into an O2 shop, only they can tell for sure.

Mines doing that and its bugging the crap out of me, plus I have to keep telling mine to put the predictive text back on at random intervals, even though ive selected it already.

If you hit where it has the date it brings up a number of shortcuts, mainly different profiles, will it let you hit one of the others (offline is in that list) and then work?

Predictive text?

Full sized QWERTY f.t.w! :) What are you, a girl or something? :p

Also, while i'm being insulting, could you do me a favour? :o

Do *#0000# and tell me what firmware you're running. Nokia Software updater is being a 'tard and the manual phone update just crashes.
