Rock Band - Which one should I buy?

I heard you could buy Rock Band and then download/transfer the songs from any previous RB games but I'm not sure how it works, and in general have no idea what RB is the best one to buy

If it makes any difference, I do not need the Guitar as I <3 my Les paul

You need the disc from rock band 1, then it installs the songs to the hard drive and lets you access them in rock band 2.

not even remotely similar. I play frets on fire occassionally but it just isn't in the same league for quality or functionality.

It is with mods. Its terrible lookin stock wise but with the gh3 mod i use its so much nicer and more options and stuff. Its totally different from stock with mods.

Thread hi-jack - can I buy RB 1, install the songs to my hard drive then return the game and still play them on RB 2?

Yes. You need the transfer tool (I think it's a fiver or something)

When you load up Rock Band there's an option to install the tracks to the harddisk from the main menu. When you select that you have to use MS Points to buy the license to do so. It'll then start ripping the tracks to your harddisk. Once that's done you can just put in Rock Band 2 and all the songs will be there. Unless something happens to your harddisk you'll never need to touch the RB1 disc again.
