Hi all - just begun work on my very first ever self-build this afternoon. Taking my time, and trying not to rush. However, I have come to a halt and thought I'd ask someone the question rather than guessing on this!! It's with regard to connecting the system panel - power switch, reset switch, hdd light, power light.

The case I have is the Antec 300, and the motherboard is an Asus P5KPL-AM. I have also included a link showing the motherboard manual diagram.

The problem is as follows:

- The motherboard says to connect four case connectors in total, each connector taking up 2 pins. This leaves one spare pin as there are 9 in total.
- The Antec case indeed comes with 4 connectors, but one of them requires THREE pins (power LED).

So... what do I connect where?!?

Heh, strangely i've also just build a pc with that motherboard for a client.

With regards to the 3 pin pwr button connector, you'll need to extract on of the pins and move it next to the other one to allow you to plug it in. Pain in the proverbial.

Wow..! I'm really sorry but that doesn't make too much sense to me. Trust me to get a silly problem on my first ever-build!

So looking at my picture link above, how would you suggest I plug the 4 connectors in..?

If the middle pin on the connector is a gap, wouldn't it be easier to short the two together with a small bit of wire?

EDIT: jmp 78: plug the other three in as per the manual.

The POWER LED connector is 3 holes, no gap in between the two :(

Yep, like Deathwish said, there should be two wires.

See this photo from a review:

You need to move one of the wires from the outside the the middle, using something like Deathwish's suggestion.

I wonder why they used a 3 pin connector, seems a bit bizarre...

Thanks guys - it seems that this must be it. Trust me... on first build as well! I only got the Antec 300 'cos I assumed that as everyone raves about it that is must be... normal!!

Still... sexy case

Thanks agn, help appreciated.

Don't think I've yet to come across a mobo that has two PWRLED pins next to each other so that's weird.

Did the mobo come with the ASUS Q-connector?

I've had this problem before, and I'm frankly amazed that this sort of thing can happen. Some cases have a 3 hole power LED cable, some 2. Some motherboards expect a 2 pin power LED, some expect 3, and some motherboards have a place for BOTH. Front panel connectors BADLY need to be standardised so stupid things like this don't happen.

Funnily enough i was inside my case this morning and noticed on my gigabyte ds3 board there is a 3 pin power led jumper as well as a 2 pin jumper
Apparently it blinks the power led on the case when in suspend mode
