Hello,
I am getting a new CPU cooler at the end of the month, need a budget one as i am young and have strict parents :P

i have my eye on:
Arctic Cooling Alpine 7 Pro Cooler (£9.95 or something)
Arctic Clean Thermal Remover (£5.74)

Which thermal paste is better for the cooler?

Arctic Cooling MX2 Paste (£4.59)
or
Arctic Silver Thermal Paste (£6.89)

my total budget is between £20-£25

and is that cooler ok for cooling my pentium D socket LGA775?

Thanks
Rowan :)

i am young
Greetings youngling rowannew,

that cooler you picked looks like a big pile of poo! :p

See if you can pick up this cooler cheap!

They used to cost £10.00 but all the prices went up. As with most budget coolers it uses the naff Intel Push-Pin system but for a £5.00 you can buy a conversion kit from Thermalright that makes it lots easier to fit your new cooler

Yep thats true, it comes pre applied so the whole process couldnt be similar. I used to have that Akasa 965 cooler and used the push pins. Was fine to be honest and a decent cooler. :)

hi sorry to jump in here that conversion kit u say about (as i dont like the idea of them rubbish pins) will they allso work for other LG775 cpu coolers to im thinkig yes as the spacings are all the same?.

im looking at the Sunbeam Core Contact Freezer heard its good.

do ocuk sell the conversion kit?.

ok will have to look out for it cheers.

ocuk should sell thermalright stuff keep hearing of there coolers i would get one for sure.

The conversion kit should be fine for any. You pull the push pins out with pliers, this can be done with care leaving working push pins were you to want to replace them. It's the same mounting kit they sell with their heatsinks, good of them to offer it separately.

Pile of poo is a bit harsh :) I've got one of them and it's doing just fine. Not a good call spending half the budget on cleaning fluid and thermal paste. The supplied stuff will work well enough, and you can clean the processor pretty well with dried up screen wipes and cheap vodka/non scented nail varnish remover/isopropyl alcohol found elsewhere.
My 10 quid cooler has a e8400 sitting at 3.6ghz in an matx case, temps below 65 on prime 95 load last time I checked. It's also pretty quiet

Oh wow, I didn't realise it threw out that much heat. I withdraw the previous recommendation.

Yeah, pretty similar to intel stock sink. It doesn't cool much better, but does so at much lower noise which is sometimes important. It's not suited for the OP though :(

I Thought This Was the Best Value For Money CPU cooler ATM, and you could use it on i7.
