Any ideas? No sign of damage, its been working ok this morning just seems to have happened.

Same on all inputs.

Also, its 6/7 months old... do I contact retailer or Panasonic

Oh dear, that is screwed and not something I have seen before.

Contact the retailer and hassle them, it should be them who has to repair or replace it.

Plasma or lcd, can't tell from the pics ?

ok well the black area appears to be creeping across. And theres image retention of what was there before (since the black bit)

Very odd, not something I've seen before either, looks as if the cells are dieing
From hat I've heard panny are good with warranties tho so I wouldn't worry too much, most of these come with 5yr warranties remember :)

Under 12months would be retailer as they cover the first year AFAIK

Its very strange! Initially thought my 3 year old had damaged it, but cant see any signs of damage.

Update... no picture now. Strangely no sound either. The power light flashes for ages when we turn it on now

Back to shop.....

They will offer to send away for repair for you. If they tell you you have to contact the manufacturer they are breaking the law, although it might be quicker for you to do so.

It was from a catalogue so have a feeling it will be a while if I go through them! Gonna ring panasonic tomorrow and see what they say

The shop are responsible for it, but if try direct to panasonic it may be faster, all depends on the shop.

Either way, its broken, and I dont believe there's much in the way of physical damage that a store could claim caused that problem. (Keep the pics showing the progress of the fault just in case they try and pull anything).

Just FYI - All screens 32"+ from major manufacturers (with a few exceptions) have at home warranties. The best thing to do with any set larger than 32" is to call the retailer and they'll generally have some procedure in place to log the set on for repair. Someone will then come to your house and either repair on site or take away to a workshop to investigate further.

When chasing for updates then you can speak with the retailer and make them do all the leg work for you so you're not chasing engineers (which in my experience can be "interesting")

On a side note - LG, Philips and Sharp have policies in place that mean either the retailer or the customer *HAVE* to contact their call centres to log a call through them which is in turn passed on to a designated repair agent. With most other manufacturers you can just get the name of your local authorised service centre and call them directly.

I'd try the catalogue first and then speak to Panasonic on 08448443852 if they're useless :p

Looks like one of the drive boards has gone, should be a pretty quick fix. I believe Panasonic collect these and then return them when they are sorted, but it's been a few years since I dealt with their warranties.
