What Is going on with Grand Turismo 5?

With regards to 6 months to model a car. I will assume that they mean it takes 6 months to test, record and document each car (handling, speed and sound etc) and THEN 3D model and texture it. Due to the manufacturer licences they may need to have the models and accuracy approved by some manufacturers slowing the whole process down. They will also have to test and setup the physics to suit that vehicle.

If they do go down to that level of detail that would be amazing, but I think that the game would be 90% complete and 10% waiting for the oppertune time of year to release, so if its late this year it could be another 6-12 monts before they send it gold. There will also be some efficiency of the polygon structures to optimise and LOD models potentially too, all adding to the timescale.

I said if GT5 was anything special I'd buy a PS3, but I'm not sure the racing experience will be all that compared to the smaller more fully featured games like Forza that have some sort of damage and cover most of the bases. The only advantage to the user experience GT5 has is the visual and cockpit aspects when racing. The look of cars on the whole doersn't really matter when you're in the damn thing bouncing off walls.

Dup, read the thread mate, GT5 will apparently have damage! :p

On the 6 months front, iirc they said it would take 6 months for 1 person to create all the models for each car including skins etc. Obviously one person doesn't do it all however, so it's probably more like 1 week for 24 people to make a car or something along those lines.

If this game has the McMerc SLR and the air brake doesn't lift when breaking at high speed I will shoot a Polyphony Digital coder.

Well considering they put the effort into perfectly modelling parts of the car you can't even see while driving i reckon the odds are pretty good of them including it.

I can normally read into sarcasm but are you?
:confused::D
Nope just like with Killzone2 they took ages to use the Cell to offload rendering functions from the GPU to CPU. This along with the requirements of the car manufacturers to approve certain things means it will take ages still.

Its important for Sony to get this right as its a title which could sell a lot more PS3's.

I doubt the PS3s hardware plays that bigger part in the delay to be honest, They just want it perfect before release.

That's not how the industry works though, especially in times of economic downturn. I'm sure all developers would love to be able to take the time and make every game they make perfect before release, but it doesn't work like that, they need to make money, they have to have some kind of deadline for release.

After being a big fan of the gt games, i was really looking forward to this one for the ps3.The prologue came which was just a little taster really but when is the real thing gonag get released? What a mess up

When its ready? You can't rush greatness. :D

As much as I'd like GT5 now, we can't do anything but wait. Deal with it and go play other games. :)

In the terms of you playing the game soon, nothing, show pony, Sony are wasting a lot of man power of getting HD cars right just so when you crash into a wall they stay perfect like you are driving in a parallel universe.

Flamebait. :)

Thing is, Polyphony is owned by Sony who would benefit in more ways than just profit from this title if it was excellent. It's a system seller, no doubt about it and the last thing Sony want is for it to turn out crap so the game that arguably will shift the most consoles in the PS3s lifespan ends up selling badly.

It's the same sort of thing as Sony selling the PS3 at a huge loss at launch; they wanted to get as many bluray players in peoples' homes as quickly as possible so their part-owned format would beat the competitor.

Well i've always come to the assumption the 6month figure was given for the first(batch) model(s) that they made from conception to final which doesn't come to a suprise because of all the things that have been mentioned, especially on the licencing front.

I'd probably put my house on this being the case, i mean they even bothered to do it with the Audi TT in the demo ;)

It's up for Pre-order on somewhere for 25/09/2009.

Not sure how accurate that is, but I doubt it's play taking a wild stab in the dark?

Remove the competitor names mate, tis against the rules to talk about them (OcUK sell consoles too hence competitor).

The website you mentioned is well known for just throwing up random dates to get in preorders. I remember preordering FFXII when they claimed it was due to be released the next week, over a year later i finally received my copy.

My guess is early 2010 at best.

According to an inside source, GT5 will be out within the next 11 months and will be a worldwide launch. It features 600+ cars, 96 tracks and the ability to cut and paste sections of tracks to make your own one. The online will feature voice chat and clan support among other things. Probably to much to be true but i expect to see more at E3 and definatly TGS this year.

Never heard so much b*******. What licenses does GT5 have that hasn't already been modelled arcade style in a dozen other games? None.
