At the weekend i went to a party where a few of the people there had made vodka jelly, we ended up having a much drunken discussion about whether a police breathaliser would pick up on the alcohol content of said vodka, as it wouldnt be identifiable on your breath, just in your bloodstream.

I personally think it will pick it up the alcohol, but a good few of my friends were argueing otherwise.

What does OcUk think?

The alcohol in your breath comes from your blood. When it passes through your lungs to pick-up fresh oxygen some alcohol escapes, this is what the breathalyser detects.

It can also pick-up a recent drink (hence they give you 20 mins from your last drink if desired) or things like mouth wash (if you believe some daytime presenters).

Yep ive just realized i fail horribly for asking :(

I seemed to have forgotten that the lungs are connected to the heart and therefore the bloodstream......

At least i was right at the party!

Edit - You may close this thread if you wish, or leave it open for people to ridicule me further :)
