I got caught doing 40 in a 30 a few weeks back by a mobile safety van. I was at the Pirelli rally on Saturday and got talking to a guy who told me that there is a list of approved sites that the camera must be at otherwise I can't be done for speeding. I checked the website and found the list here;

http://www.safespeedforlife.co.uk/cam-locations-sunderland.asp

Now I was caught speeding on Leechmere road which isn't listed anywhere on the websites list of mobile sites.

Can I get out of it, and if so how would I go about doing that?

Someone once told me that the policeman has to be standing with his feet exactly 47 centimetres apart, in order for the speeding ticket to remain valid. Doesn't mean it's true ;)

Can't see any mention of "approved" sites on that page.

The approved sites bit came from the guy I was talking to and that is the only page I could find listing mobile camera sites, he seemed quite knowledgeable because he was related to a lawyer and gave me a load of advice.

I know there will be a lot of people coming in on their high horse saying pay up you were speeding but if I can get out of it I am going to. I always obey the speed limits it's not like I hoon around everywhere, it was a momentary lapse of concentration on an unfamiliar road where the limit went from 60 to 30.

He sounded very confident. Not knowledgeable.

Could you find us a link to "approved sites" regs to look at.

I'm related to a surgeon, would you let me take your spleen out?

I'm just exploring everything I was told, simply looking for a bit of advice, I wasn't asking for unhelpful and sarcastic replies, if people don't think they can help please just hit the back button.

Not being funny mate and certainly not trying to be sarcastic, but you have been caught speeding and openly admit your guilt on this forum - why would you not do the honest thing, stick your hands up and deal with the consequences like most everyone else?

It's more to do with my views towards mobile speed vans, they way they set them up and the places they put them. I just don't like the way they operate altogether, especially this one which was placed right on the 60/30 boundary getting people who accelerate that little bit early but that's a whole new discussion.

I'm probably one of the slowest drivers you know, I drive a 306 diesel and just try to get from A to B using the least fuel possible and always follow the speed limits.

I'm just going to leave this thread now as I doubt there will be any helpful advice given, thanks for looking anyway.

Well I won't disagree with you there, most people have no love for the anti-speed brigade in this country. However, you were speeding.....

... it's a fair cop G'vnor?

:D

You've just admitted you were well in excess of the speed limit, so its a bit wrong to think you should be able to weasel your way out of it.

Learn your lesson, pay the fine and slow down.

You were doing 33% over the speed limit. Generally 30mph restrictions are places in areas where they are required. You have admitted doing it; pay up and start accepting some responsibility for your actions.

as far as im aware, they do have to operate in an area where their prescence is sign posted

you'd have to drive all the way there to check if there are any camera signs up. As far as i know, theres no requirement to have this list publicly available.

Could you drive back and found out if there were signs there ? if not then just pay up

If you can drive back, and find out there arent any signs, im not sure if the new guidelines state this is no longer necessary (like the previous ruling about them having to be visible).

Best ask over at pepipoo

Is Leechmere road the one leading to ASDA (now one lane)?

Its often round the bend out of sight just before the ASDA entrance :(

Also i don't think it matters where they are parked just as long as its legal, but even then im not 100% it has to be legal.

EDIT: Reading the thread properly this time i know where you are talking about, 30 is way too slow for that road but since i know they often have the vans round there i always stick to the speed even if it means having some idiot sitting a foot off my bumper.

If they're dangerously parked and you feel so strongly about it to wish a crash upon someone, why dont you take a few pictures of them and make a complaint?
