The Nokia 5800 Express Media (Tube) Thread

Nooooo!!!

I've just run the Nokia updater, it updated my firmware fine according to itself, so when it finished i tried to turn the phone on, now all it does is do that little vibrate on startup and nothing comes on the screen!

what have i done?

Do *#0000# and tell me what firmware you're running. Nokia Software updater is being a 'tard and the manual phone update just crashes.

Seems like i'm on the newest firmware, but I have a different custom one to you. Makes sense, as we're on different networks.

Knip, is yours branded or unlocked? I got mine from Orange but it *appears* to be unbranded, also it came in a Nokia box rather than an Orange one. Pity I don't have a different SIM to try in it.

Mine came in a nokia box, but generally o2 phones arent locked to that network. I dont have any other SIM's about but could try it when im with a friend sometime.

(am off tidying my flat for a bit if I dont reply again right away)

mine came in a nokia box its unlocked (i have my orange sim in it at the moment) but it is branded to o2

Sounds fuggered. Looks like it's going back to Nokia i'm afraid. :(
 
Okay. Just run the updater and there is a V20 firmware for this phone. However i'm worried about letting it update after Gamer's little nightmare. :(

Can you let me know if it does. Did it wipe your messages and pictures/remove anything important like songs youve put on it when you did the update?

It didnt mine. You can backup your phone beforehand if you are worried.

It asked me if I wanted to connect to the net to get the update (which it did), and then it said connecting to Nokia, and then it says no update available.
Maybe its an o2 thing. I tried it via the WiFi in my flat as well.
 
I used the Nokia software updater.

It wiped my date and time but left all numbers, songs, etc. intact.

OTA will not update the firmware, you have to user the Nokia software updater on the PC.

Ah ok, havent installed the disc on my PC yet, need to get rid of the n82 one first though as my lappy is very full and stupidly slow already.
