Since 201, Ive been using Ferrite beads on my headphone lead conected to my mobile phone. These beads are used a lot on electical items to "kill" off any unwanted EMI radiation interferance. So I thought it they can stop this radiation traveling down cables Id add one to my hands free. It is known that any cable comming out of a mobile phone can act as an anntena. Research has shown 3 times more radiation is assorbed when people using an earphone over using the phone strait on the ear!

Anyway just noticed this artical on the BBC

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4203077.stm

Ferrite beads only cost less than a few pounds and if you listen to your phone as a walkman or use hands free its worth putting one on your cable... even for a cleaner signel if you not worried about possible health risks.

Why dont phone makers put ferrite beads on cables yet computer companys always do now ? Simple, if they started they would admit mobile radiation may be harmful and it would cost more too.

I'll admit to not having even used Google yet, but none the less, where would you suggest buying these from?

Thanks for this - interesting, and I'd missed it.

Not according to the article you linked to:
While studies have shown hands-free kits reduce radiation, emissions still travel up the wires on the outside and are absorbed by the head.
I'd be interested to see Prof. Challis's figures on phone against ear, phone using earphone, and phone using earphone and ferrite beads. While it's interesting to hear of a way to reduce the radiation to zero, if using an earphone already significantly reduces it anyway, I'd prefer to live without a big clunking thing half way up the cable, "at chest level".

Cost, the phones work ok without ferrites so they have no reason to use them.

Who said its not harmful? Research funded by mobile phone makers?? Beter be safe than sorry... esp as a feritte beads costs next to nothing and we know that that stops radiation.

Ah yes, those people conspiring to make us, err, dead.

So, before we go into the research that says that it is not harmful, where exactly is this research saying that it is?

If phones were unsafe, we'd know by now. Just like the urban myths that you shouldn't use them in planes or petrol stations. Look, phones have been around for years now, and no ones reported any ill health. My dads used them since the were available and is on it 24x7, as he's gotten older, he hasn't had any ill effects from them.

Smoking, drinking, pollution from cars, take your pick there are lots of things which have been proven to be harmful.

If you think Ferrite beads would help then stick them on. For me, I'm fine thanks.

How long had people been smoking for till the risks became known? Its only in the last 10-20 years that most of the warnings about it come out... avertising stopped etc and warnings on boxes..

If ferrite cores help my expensive PC from EMI then my priceless brain deserves one too :)

Actually the health effects were discovered in 1939 in nazi germany, you can't really compare modern medical science with people smoking since 5000BC though....
