Speeding Ticket

Don't take me too literally ;) I would'nt want someone to get hurt over that, unless it was another scamera operator :p. Taking pics etc.. will probably get you nowhere fast with the gestapo that is LSCP.

Unlikely - I dont think its fair to judge others by your standards

Maybe I'm just a cynic then. But really, who doesn't avoid bills when they can? I don't subscribe to all this "caught fair and square" stuff. I presume you don't work in business or a commercial environment as it's exactly the same. Bring in as much as possible whilst paying out as little as possible. I apply that to my life more than I even do at work.

But you don't have much choice, about the only way to get out of it, is to goto court and see if they calibrated the camera. However they won't show you that until you are in court. then you will be let of or have more points/fine.

That law, as well as sign posts and easily visable was changed age ago.

It was never actually a law. The government said (some years ago now) that if forces wanted any of the camera revenue back then they to follow certain guidelines: box brightly painted, clearly visible, location marked etc. But forces were always able to put cameras wherever they wanted, a long as they didn't want any of the fines money. Then the government abandoned that strategy about three years ago and again said cameras could go anywhere, marked however: the forces wouldn't get a penny either way.

I see, learn something new everyday.

I am pretty sure you are right that the camera's can only be on pre-designated roads and unlike most of the other people here I wish you good luck in trying to get out of it.

Best ask over at pepipoo

This seems like the best bit of advice yet, just had a quick look and if anyone will know then people on these forums should...hopefully!

the question is whether this law was removed at the same time as the requirement for them to be yellow as removed

i believe it was, but pepipoo should be able to confirm.

Beware, by following the advice given on Pepipoo I got 4 points and £250 fine as opposed to 3 points and £60.

I recall the advice went along the lines of "not one person has ever been taken to court by the Metropolitan police following the use of the XYZ defence"
Well if that was ever true, then I was the first.

They are not as all knowing as people think.

I stopped to talk to a PC who had scanned me a few minutes earlier with a hand held detector, I panicked as I couldn't remember if it was still 40 or had dropped to 30 as it was by a school so I went round the block to make sure & luckily I was o.k as it was 40, I was doing 42 when I spotted him
He was perfectly happy to talk whilst continuing to scan oncoming cars, I asked some of the questions mentioned above regarding advanced warnings of speed cameras & he was quite certain that if he wanted he could hide behind a bush or wear a funny costume etc.

However when I looked at the Government safety camera website it mentioned that the officer must be clearly visible etc. etc. but then went on to read that if the police failed to comply with any of the aforementioned guidelines it was not a reason to escape prosecution.
The hand held detector was set to bleep at 46mph so he only pulled up one car the whole time I stood there talking so I had to leave it at that

Parked at 29.9mph?

Aww i was bested by your superior language skills. You know what i meant.;) Its getting really ridiclous these days, i have a mate who was done for 33 in a 30 in Watford the other day by a scamera van. I mean c'mon!

Its not a bill though, its a punishment for breaking the law. Trying to get out of it is like trying to prove you werent in the wrong.

Even if it was a bill - if you got an electric bill that said you had used x units, which you completely agree with - dont you think it would be a bit wrong to start trying to take the electric company up on a technicality to get out of paying the bill?

The company I work for is a registered charity...

I'm paranoid still, not sure wether I got caught yesterday or not, because I thought if they were scanning they would have pulled me over after I passed, but they didn't. At the minute I'm just being optimistic that they were sitting there for a stopping place, but I somewhat doubt it, lol.
