2x 4890's or 295GTX?

Quite a lot of users will already have an SLI capable mobo, as they have been around for a long time now, the general realisation is if you have a Quad Core or Phenom then you are guaranteed to have SLI, thing is is SLI really worth it at the moment?

I assume you mean crossfire not SLi? Most people who have a quadcore will have a motherboard with an intel chipset and all modern intel chipsets support crossfire. X38, X48, P45, X58. Anyone who has an i7 computer will also have a crossfire capable computer, but not all i7 boards support SLi.

I'd get 2x4890s, the 295 is a bodge job.

Lovely sweeping statement there.

Unfortunately you're wrong and it is still the fastest graphics card on the market (yes, faster that the 4870X2 before anyone says otherwise).

Yes it is expensive, and yes the 4870X2 has more "bang-for-buck" if that's what interests you, but a bodge job? Looks like you don't know what your talking about.

Who you trying to convince him or yourself? :p

Him, obviously. I'm very happy with my 295.

When someone comes on here with a statement like "the 295 is a bodge job" I feel it necessary to correct their obvious stupidity.

How long is this argument gonna continue? I've forgotten what the original point was...
Just get whatever card configuration you like best as they'll all do the job.

It's not stupidity, it's called opinion. Many people, myself included think nvidia's dual GPU cards are botched jobs. 2 PCBs sandwiched is just so rough.

That's why people are so happy about the rumor of a single PCB 295 coming out.

Yes and in my opinion, his was stupid. Stop being such a hypocrite.

At least you didn't dispute the fact that the 295 is the fastest card - Well done. Pretty good for "botched" & "rough" job I would say.

.

We ALL know the 295 is the 'fastest' card, but it's still overpriced and botched.

To the OP, a 4870X2 would be your best bet, with a bit of overclocking you'll get very nice performance for quite a bit cheaper than a 295 and 4890 crossfire.

It depends about your definition of "overpriced" either in the sense that its more than the ATI equivalent, or that its more than other lower priced, Nvidia equivalents?

To be honest if your like me, im definatly going for a single GTX295 card, and holding out until the end of May looks like a good idea, as by then I should be able to lay my hands on the ultra-overclockable i7 and also the single PCB 295 card as well under the custom build section :D

In my opinion, the cheaper product sets the price standard, especially when performance is very similar.

I'm really itching to get a core i7 set up soon too, I need something new to play with :p.

It's a bodge job, 2 PCBs plastered together, not even truly 2 280 cores...but if you're happy with it that's what matters.

The OP should get either

2x260s 216
2x4890s
2x275s
1x4870X2

IMO the best for the money

*sighs & dirties hands with thread once again*

A bodge job that is currently the fastest card. Who cares how it is constructed? As long as it does the job, right?

And yes, I am happy with it, very happy. A marked improvement on the 4870X2 I previously owned.

*places bucket over spitzoid's head*

That is true about it doesnt matter how it has been constructed, but by the end of may, I should be able to have the ultra-overclockable version of the i7, and also the single PCB version of the GTX295 that should be coming in the next few weeks, then I will be laughing and have the perfect system in my eyes for a long time to come, I have certainly waited long enough to have a super computer that plays anything I care to throw at it :D

That is of course until the next gen cards comes out.....

....and then this argument can start all over again. YIPPEE!!!!

*replaces bucket*

I automatically assume, despite gradual improvements in crossfire and sli, that a single card with, preferably, a single gpu will bring the least confliction and fewer issues. In this its between a two card setup or a dual gpu card...... I'd go for the 2x4890's.....do you get a free pair of earplugs with them ? :D
