I am trying to learn the piano and watching some vids on youtube and came across this guy when i was looking some Coldplay tutorials....

This is titled the slower version?

According to the info, he plays all his songs by ear with no sheet music....how the hell does one remember all of the songs on there??? The speed, the complexity, it is mind boggling.

p.s. I just saw a Miley Cyrus song cover there and it's is quite brilliant !

Playing with 1 hand is pretty easy, but using 2 at once like that takes hours and hours of practice... Also learning to play a song by ear is a whole new ball-game also. I gave up so just use one hand now which is fine for just getting a few notes into DAW proggies... :o

Great vid, always loved the song, but never had a chance to actually see the piano part being played :)
Would love to be able to play an instrument like that....

Er, that looks like normal piano playing to me? I don't understand about the excitement. I think it's just the size the instrument itself and it's playing area that sometimes seems amazing.

It's like most instruments, quite a few people can play them just by ear alone. :)

Sorry but shut up.

lulz?

It's a case of something looking more difficult than it is because you don't know how it's done. I haven't looked at his other videos but in the one you embedded there's nothing particularly difficult shown. If you saw the sheet music of what he was playing it would probably be about grade 7 standard or so. It will seem impressive if you've just begun but you will get there in the end. :)

Working it out from ear is fairly impressive, though.

Not wishing to put a dampener on things, but that's really quite basic piano playing. I clicked this thread hoping to see a rendition of Liszt's 4th Transcendental Etude or something.

Exactly this.

Now this is something else. I'm almost convinced that there has to be some sort of repeat function on here, but then not all the notes are repeated so I'm foxed. It's just so fast, I've tried playing it and can't make my fingers go even half as quickly as that. Skip forward to 2m 35s for the really impressive bit or click here.

My thoughts exactly. I kept watching thinking it was gonnna step up a gear but it just didn't. I think saying it is grade 7 is rather generous.

Edit: now this is what I call awesome piano skill!
