Found out today from some of my mates that a guy we know is always drink driving. Not getting totally wrecked but half the time he drives he's had a few and is over the limit. The guys only about 20 and is often driving in the daytime drunk. He works at a pub apparently and ofter his shift finishes he has a bottle of red wine or a few pints and then drives off.

They all discussed shopping him but only half heartedly as they're pretty good mates with him. What would you do (bearing in mind all I've heard is he DD's, no proof)? I don't know his car reg (only that it's a bloody Corsa!) or where he lives just a first and last name (which are quite common)?

Is there a website like there is for untaxed car locations?

I kinda feel like I have to get involved as he will end up killing someone if he's doing it, but at the same time all I've really heard is pub talk that he does it and I don't really know the guy that well.

I'd rather not just walk into the police station or call them up tbh,

If you know that someone intends to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, please stop them. We need your help to put pressure on the people who insist on putting others in danger.

Which is the lesser Evil?

Shopping him and looking a bit of a prat on your part if he passes any subsequent breath test or, reading in the local rag / hearing down the pub that he has killed/injured somebody and having to live with the thought that you could have done something?

Your call.

Hmmmm totally understand that now, think I'll get a few more details before I phone the old bill though, cause all I know is a name.

Thing is my dad use to drink drive atleast once a week and I would never have even thought about shopping him, and I know my girlfriends dad whos captain of a golf club drives about 40 miles home a couple of times a week drunk and again I wouldn't even think about letting the police know about him. I don't agree with it but not my place to say, his family know about it and don't agree or like it so it's up to them imo.

a bottle of wine and a few pints is mental. im pretty sure id be puking my guts out

hes either been very very lucky or has an amazing tolerance to alcohol

Or your a massive lightweight :D

i wont deny, i am a bit of a lightweight (and definately not a wine drinker) but after that much id be in bits. i wont deny, ill drive my car after a pint or two (obviously not in quick succession etc) as i have self preservation and love my car... but a bottle of wine, he must be a bit mad or a very seasoned drink driver lol

It sounds as if you know the Pub where he works? If he kills someone while drink-driving or gets caught by the Police, the Pub Landlord may end up armpit deep in the brown and smelly stuff. Have you considered leaving an anonymous note for the Landlord saying that you have notified the Police of his name and place of work?

Either way, you have a clear responsibility to notify the Police (e.g. via Crimestoppers), even though they will probably not bother to follow it up.

What would you do if you saw someone acting suspiciously around the house over the road?

What would you hope your neighbour would do if the roles were reversed?

Shop him, tbh.

"Evil triumphs when good people do nothing."

It sucks to be thought of as a grass, but you'll cut yourself up knowing that you could have stopped a potential drink-drive accident where somebody was killed.

Id call crimestoppers and just give them all the info you can. Same thing happend in our street a few years back, bloke used to go to the pub and have a few more than he should, but with kids playing in the street all summer, somethink had too be done.

Dont forget you dont have to leave any personal info, so what harm can stopping somethink potentionaly dangerous do :)

I'd definitely report him, he's breaking the law and he's a danger to himself and everyone else. Can't see any reason not to have him removed from the roads.

ps.. as a friend, why not talk to him about it rather than shop him? youre meant to be a "friend" after all

He's more of a friends friend. I see him out in town drinking every other week or so and he get the friendly nod and thats about it. I chat with him only if he's with the mates I know better and generally we never talk to each other.

No idea which pub but I'm gonna try and find out.

i cant believe your asking !

make a phone call.

I'm not asking if I should make the phone call but if what I've just been told is enough, it was after all down the pub after a few that the friends started talking.

ive seen them act on these tips on Road Wars

just tell them what type of car to expect, and where it will leave, and about what time.

THey could only have been doing it cos the cameras where with them, but you'd hope they acted on this sort of thing.

i'd definately shop him. And when confronted i'd tell him too. I have no time for those knowingly drink driving.
