sigma's 200-500mm lens

That bazooka-like Sigma lens we saw at PMA 2008 can now be your very own—for $25,000, more than what the rep told us, but you save $9,500.01 (28%) off its $34k list price (!). It's 50 pounds, but no worries, just use Super Saver shipping.

I would rather Simga spent research efforts getting their tele-primes to equal the Canon-Nikon brands quality. Or even just a 500 2.8 prime.

or just refresh the 70-200 2.8 to include OS!

Would be nice, but the problems is that if you add OS to the 70-200 2.8 then it porbably starts to cost 2/3rds of the Nikon/Canon versions, and the last time I checked, at least the Nikon 70-200 VR was significantly sharper wide open.

Perhaps a 70-200 F/4 OS, or their 100-300 f/4 with OS.

The recent Sigma primes (50mm, 70, 150 macros), have been amazing optical performers. More of these.
I still think their is a place for something like a 400mm f/4. or 500mm 5.6 half the weight of the faster counterparts (400 2.8 and 500 4), not as slow as the 400 5.6.

100% agree!

Surprised they've not already made one of these! I'd imagine they'd sell very well.

I'd rather they spend some of their research money in the QC department and got a higher percentage of their lenses out of the door calibrated properly!

Its ok if you want to shoot 500mm at F2.8 for sports etc, and you have an entire crew of people to help you setup and carry it around. But for anything else its totally useless really. I also doubt the focussing is as fast or accurate as say a Canon or Nikon 400/500/600mm, and I'd be very suprised if the IQ is as good.

lol i honestly checked the date to see if it was from 1st April!

doesn't even have IS lol. rubbish!

Why would you want IS? 2.8 at 500mm makes a stop faster than anything else out there. The lens is not designed for hand holding so if it had IS/VR/OS it would always be switched off and just add more complexity to the lens.

Aperture or Tripod > IS/VR/OS
