Last night at about 11:45pm I heard a loud metallic scraping sound, I looked out my window straight away and there was a shoddy looking individual walking away. I got out of bed and went flying down the stairs and outside to check my car but there was nothing so I went back inside, then I thought ah crap ran back down and checked my dad's car and it had a 8" key mark across the bonnet down to the metal. By the time I realised the person was well out of sight.

I am so bloody annoyed with myself as the person that did it was meters away from me and I didn't do anything, I saw what they were wearing roughly and what their height/build was so I will keep an eye out for this person.

I was thinking, had I caught the person, what could I of actually done? Me and my father could have knocked the 7 shades out of this person but probably would have been done for assault. Had we of restrained the person and called the police, would they of even bothered to come out as it wasn't a 'life or death situation' and had the police come out I probably would have been in trouble for restraining this arse. It feels like we can't win, if we don't do anything it will happen again as my car was keyed and my dad's been keyed before but if we do catch the person I feel like there's still nothing I can do to stop it as the police don't really care. What threw me off is that the person didn't look round when I came flying out the house and didn't change their walking pace, had they of ran I would have given chase instinctively. I hope that perhaps me flying out the house will deter it from happening as I've shown I'm a bit more on the ball - but obviously not enough :(

I have an idea what house this person is from but with no proof I can't really go knocking doors down and accusing people.

I'm so angry with myself and the barsteward who did this, but there's nothing I can really do short of sleeping on the drive and keeping guard.

Has anyone actually caught someone who has keyed their car and what happened? As next time the person will not be getting away with it.

What have you done to become a target for this?

TBH I'd sit up for the next couple of nights with a bat, that or move the cars somewhere else and use public transport for a couple of weeks.

They would come out if you told the police that the person was in danger due to the fact that if they weren't there in 15 min he'd have a few brocken bones

Have you tried asking the neighbours by any chance to see if they saw anything or anybody suspicious around snooping your streets the last few nights? Might be an idea to let the neighbours know so they can keep a close eye out!

Nothing wrong with a Focus mate. Do you have any idea why it was done?

No idea, when we had two cars on the drive and me and my dad had to park on the street I had to park outside their house (Clicky, it is the bay in front of the pink house - the pink house is the one I am having issues with) I actually spoke to the old man of the house and specifically asked if it was ok for me to leave my car there and I was told there was no issue as they did not have a car.

A few weeks later while parked there somebody left a car battery on the bonnet of my Escort, I knocked at the house again and asked and there was no issue and they 'didn't know a thing'. Slightly miffed I suspected kids and thought nothing more of it. A couple of months later my Escort was keyed all over, I was annoyed to say the least but I suspected it was them and parked elsewhere.

Every occupant of that house gives us funny looks as if we've done something and I know they are behind it as my next door neighbour who also left their car there also had it keyed. It's a very odd house and a few years ago one if the lads there slit their own throat. I won't bring race into it but I think they're Indonesian so not ****** or chav scum.

Tempting but the police will side against me, the police round here are useless.

There should never be an issue with parking outside someone's house on a public road, a public road is a public road anyone is allowed to park there as long as its not blocking a driveway & not double yellow lines etc. You shouldnt of had to ask them in a first place the spot outside there house does not belong to them at all & technically is the property of your local coucil.

This is true, but some people are very funny about people parking in places, and there's no harm in asking if someone is bothered about it.

Of course but as we had cars on our drive I thought it would be rude not to, it's common courtesy. This was clearly not enough.

Luckily my dad is in the car body repair trade and can do it himself so it will only cost him the paint and a beer for the foreman at work but it is not nice to have your property damaged.

What ever happened to people having the balls to take up their issues with the person rather than just damaging property.

So far they've done my dad's car two times now, my Escort was keyed all over and my next door neighbour's Audi was done over badly as well.

Cars being keyed is becoming such a problem. My GFs car was parked outside her parents for 30 minutes and it had been keyed the entire length of the car. Really annoying.

It's always been a problem in certain areas though. I remember the first time I went to Italy and every single nice car I saw in Milan seemed to be keyed.

My parents are living in Saudi at the moment, and their brand new Mazda 6 got keyed on the sides and the bootlid when they went to Jubail last week. That said, they sent me photos of the place and I think they were lucky it only got keyed.

I agree it's down to the area you live in, or if you're not tucked away from footpaths.

a lot of cars were getting scratched in my area a few months ago. In the end we caught a little **** girl red handed, but the police said she was too young to do anything and she was 'sorry'. Be glad its a fully grown bloke, catching a little girl doing it is a kick in the teeth...
