Hi, I have recently bought a new system, which consists of an i7 CPU, Corsair RAM, ASUS P6T Deluxe and some other nice stuff, including a Lian LI Case (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-105-LL&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=).
Once I got my goods, I had the system running in no time, no hiccups or whatever. All was fine until I plugged my external HDD (using an icybox hdd case) to the USB hub on my case (I obviously plugged the USB hub to a USB slot on the motherboard). After I plugged the icybox to the USB, it stopped working (just powers up but windows doesn't detect anything). I tried the icybox on another PC and the result was the same, no detection whatsoever (this used to work wonders before).
I thought the icybox got screwed or something, so I tried another USB device by plugging it on to the case, and surprisingly enough, the device stopped working again (and won't work on any PC now...).
I went on to open the motherboard's manual, to find out that it actually tells you that if you're planning on using a USB hub from the case, you must use the ASUS Q-CONNECTOR (blue plug) as a "bridge" between the motherboard slot and the USB case cable. Once I used the Q-Connector, other USB devices worked wonders (except for the 2 devices I used which are now apparently... screwed
).
I know this is a classic case of "RTFM", but what I'm asking is that is it really possible my ASUS motherboard screws up any USB device plugged if not using the Q-Connector?
