Hi guys looking to go portugal for few days just wondering if my allowance will cover anything.

I'm on simplicity 20 (12month) with 800mins and 1600text and web bot'on.

I remember with t-mobile u can send mms for free(out of allowance). recieving text was free and i disabled VM.

any one with o2 can tell me if they know.

Thank you

i'd get ITS (international traveller service)
it's only £5 a month and it substantially lowers the roaming costs..

just cancel it when you get back

just an update, i called O2 they said i can send text but it will minus 4 from allowance (1600 i have) .

calls cost 35p to UK from EU and i think he said 25 to recieve cant remember.

the CS guy also said there was a plan for £10 (1 month) which allows u to recieve calls for free and make them for 25p and VM is free.

When I was in germany over xmas I just stuck to texts and yeah they just 'cost' 4 from your allowance. I also checked and an MMS counted as 16 as opposed to the 4 it costs normally.

ITS automatically comes with any tariff that gives you 600 mins or more. This takes texts out of your allowance at 4x the normal rate.

SMS does not come out of your allowance. Not in my experience anyway.

It should with o2. I used to work in their customer services. SMS and MMS both take 4 out of your allowance and 25p thereafter. Making calls is 35p a minute.

Can you explain why it actually costs less to send mms's while abroad than in the uk (and why with some companies mms's are cheaper than normal texts abroad)?

My GF is roaming atm and it charges her 50p for an SMS but MMS comes out of her allowance. I know this because I'm the guy repeatedly topping the damn thing up :p

It's to do with the billing system. It's not clever enough to bill for MMS depending on location - so it doesn't, it remains UK prices everywhere and inclusive if applicable.

It definitely should come out as 4x SMS out of any allowance, if you're pay monthly at least. I've used it extensively while in Korea, Japan and Germany and I haven't been charged for a single one sent to the UK.

No it's not on some providers. MMS's went down to 10p, whereas texts went up to around 40p.
