There's a certain amount of irony in saying that when Dr Ashkanani is actually a she from reading the story.
Proof, as if it were needed, that being intelligent doesn't equate to having common sense. It's a shame for the lady but realistically if you are going to hand over that much cash without asking basic questions about it and satisfying yourself that it is all legitimate then it is hard to feel much sympathy.

I dont know who is thicker the doctor or the person who swindles 300,000 and then stays in the country.
Nothing wrong with foreign doctors mate, look at it this way, the money is probably still in the money too, under a bed in nice neat piles

Funny thing is I'm sure I've read MORE stories recently about large scale 419 "advance fee" scams than I read several years back, when even my dad was laughing at the rubbishness of their emails!

If shes an eye surgeon, she's clearly smart enough to not fall for dumb **** like this..but then again, she just did.

If he's got a fake passport can't we just deport him instead of spending £40K a year putting him in prison?

It's a bit like the old story about two dentists on an island, one with an immaculate waiting room, well presented dentist with perfect teeth and the other has a ramshackle look in their surgery and squint teeth - which one do you go to?
It depends on where the fake passport is from, he might be a legitimate British citizen but have a faked Nigerian passport (why he'd want that I haven't got the foggiest idea). However just jumping to the conclusion that we could a) simply deport him and that b) he doesn't deserve to spend time in prison for his crimes seems a little unfounded.
