Glad I don't live in NK!

Some ridiculous comments so far.

Looks like you'd expect from somewhere that doesn't conform to socialist ideals, hence no advertising.
They have advertising. Unfortunately the advertising budget is reserved entirely to sing the praises of a leader, who by their own admission, sentenced 2-3 million of his people to death by starvation. Money that would be better spent elsewhere imo.

In some areas... this is a whole country. A country that barb wires its beaches to stop people swimming away...

I suggest you read up on NK.

I don't need to read up on NK, I know people who have been there and also know quite a few Koreans (admittedly from SK but still).

My whole point was that ANY country can be made to look bad in photographs. I don't think anyone can deny that

SK? Good job, it's a technology thriving country that compared to NK.

It's not just pics that make NK look bad either (and not by choice) - I don't know if you've been keeping track of the news but it seems liek you do need to read up.

I could take pictures in New Orleans at night then write captions such as 'Americans are forced to live in rubble whilst its dark all around'. Also the land of no smiles... just who the hell smiles on the subway or tram, if you smiled all the time on the London Underground you would be classified as a mental. Lastly the picture of the subway stairs, I reckon that woman is happy, shes got a bunch of flowers, who wouldn't be happy with a bunch of flowers :D

Yeah NK might not be a nice place to live, but you could make anywhere look dull and boring by clever photography and filming at night time.

Some of you will be ideal citizens for the beloved leader Kim Jong's beautiful country of epic awesomeness and win.

Our country is no bed of roses either.

There is nothing much wrong with this country, it's just the people who don't really give a **** anymore. Most of the problems here are down to apathy and the fact nobody is interested in improving their community, they just sit back and let the government rule and then complain when they don't do a good job.

lol, whilst I do not think it would be ideal to live there, you must take into account our 'glorious' country as well, and how many of our people it fails, and not to even mention how it fails our children, from what I have read about NKs education system it blows ours out of the water.

There may be things we could learn from them.

Our country has people who do not respect authoritah and eople who lack discipline. In NK they do have these features because they have to else they will get beat/killed/shamed from all things shown in articles, books and documentaries. They are denied basic luxaries too like a family car and every street is virtually empty at otherwise normal working hours. Parks are beautiful yes but they are mostly empty and biillboards are littered across the land depicting KJI as a superhero who will save his citizens and polish the country.

I've not seen a single piece of media that shows NK to be a happy place to live in and it doesn't help that any media coverage of any sort is banned so all media we see is leaked stuff and of course what people who have managed to leave the country have told.

It's a different way of life I agree and the citizens have more or less become at-one with it but it's not an acceptable way of life as far as the rest of the world is concerned because there is no freedom of choice which, in the UK, we have for the time being :p and no I'm not a big fan of the UK as of late either but in perspective we're far luckier to have what we have.

Rubbish, more people than ever are attending university in this country,

My gf is a teacher so I am well aware of the current education system. The main problems in the education system are social problems. The Children that are now coming from broken and abusive families is beyond belief. There is little time left for my gf to actually teach, she is more like a social worker some days.

The government have thrown money at the problem, the kids see psychologists have private one on one tutors that sit with them in class etc etc. There was non of this in my day...

There has never been more support from the school for those at a disadvantage......however things continue to get worse, and the reason is not the school it's the environment that these children are brought up in. Too many inadequate people are doing a totally **** job of bringing up their kids because they are apathetic and want the school or the government to do the job for them.

You can enter as a tourist but have to be part of an organised tour and get escorted everywhere. Was looking into it a few months ago but its £2-3000 for a week or so so decided it wasnt worth it

that's a lot of money to visit a country that's where no one smile hehehe

You mean that from what the NK censors have decided to say about their countries education system it blows ours out of the water?

Uh huh. And you probably believe that the birth of Kim Jong Il really was prophecised by a swallow too? And that he really does actually have superpowers like the ability to distort time?

Our country is not much better IMHO.

I hope you don't truly believe that. North Korea is pretty much the worst country anyone could hope not to live in. Count yourself lucky to live somewhere like the UK.
The UK seems to be becoming more like NK every day unfortunately.

Yeah look out, here comes Brown to stick you in a forced labour camp! Also, I was shot at by our border guards last time I tried to leave the country for one of those other EU states that I'm entitled to live and work in.
