Photography in London at 5am...

It's been a fair while since I've posted on this forum! - I've given photography a break for quite some time. Tomorrow though, I'm gonna try heading down into London in the early hours to see if I can take a few good shots. I'm looking at taking the first tube into the city, getting me there roughly 5min before sunrise.

I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas in terms of locations and positions from which I can hope to obtain some good shots. I'm thinking there will be quite a potential for some really nice scenes with the changing light at this time as well. I'm armed with a London street map and a GPS, and am hoping to use the tube as little as possible once in London.

I was thinking it might be nice to try and get a few deserted street shots (ie. 28 days later). A long exposure of a sparsely populated millennium bridge looking back towards St Paul's might be quite nice. Or is it likely to be busy even at 6am?!

Is there anywhere I can get up high(ish)?

Any other ideas?

Sounds like a decent plan, remember that even before sunrise there is light so if there are earlier tubes it might be worth it.

Whenever I'm on walkabouts I end up in multi story public car parks, they can be quite nice in themselves but they also provide half decent vantage points for city-scapes.
 
Car parks sound like a good plan, I'll see if I can find one or two.

Me being an idiot, I've just realised that it is indeed Sunday tomorrow. So no tubes until 7am! :( Looks like it's gonna be a 30min walk to the night bus at 4am. This is gonna be fun :D
 
If you want, head down to Canary Wharf as well when its early, thats where the biggest buildings are so you might be able to get something insteresting (particularly if it is deserted)
 
Well it wasn't the most eventful morning. I took a few 'ok' shots, but I didn't really find anything that inspiring. Given that it was my first walkabout in over a year though, I don't really mind.

I know, I was quite disappointed myself. I was half expecting shots to just jump out at me from every angle! When I arrived at the river the skies were nice and clear, but they quickly clouded over making everything seem a bit more glum, especially at that time of day. It was a bit of a pale morning all in all. Shot 6 has been saturated quite a bit to compensate.

They are all processed to some extent as I shot in RAW, although some obviously more than others. Although 8 is pretty much straight off the camera.

I'm not too sure the desaturation works too well though :confused:
