1080p games (Xbox360)

It has 1080 progressive vertical scan lines so it is actually 1080p anyway.

Though Wipeout HD is true HD, that looks amazing. :cool:
 
According to wikipedia the game does indeed run at 'full' 1080p. I was under the impression that the game dropped to this 'false' 1080p during replays so it could slap in all sorts of posh lighting effects and anti aliasing.
 
I'm sure i read that no game is 1080p on xbox, maybe 1 PSN title or sumthing but the consoles can only get 30fps from games running at 720p so doubt 1080p good looking games will come anytime soon

The bottom line is, all 360 games can 'output' at 1080p, whether they 'render' at that or not, but only 'some' PS3 games will output at 1080p even if they render at a lower resolution.

The list from that link shows the native resolution of just about all games on both consoles including PSN/XBLA.. It also describes the intricacies of how the scaling to 1080p is done (if required).

I'm still not sure why people chase the resolution... it's like when people blindly thought processors were better because of their clock speed =/

A 720p game with all the polishing effects enabled will look better than a 1080p one without, especially at more than 5 feet from a 50" screen.
 
I'm pretty sure the 360 doesn't natively do 1080i/p, it uses an onboard scaler to reach those resolutions and it isn't particulary good either.

I displayed this HD Test Chart on the 360 in 1080i fullscreen in an attempt to get 1:1 pixel mapping.

Below is the uncompressed image that was captured from HDMI (exact digital copy of the signal so no loss in quality).



The 1 pixel areas have been replaced by a moire pattern, it hasn't retained 1:1 pixel mapping, and it's generally more blurry.

my xbox does the same with the test image. i dsiplayed it using media center, how did you? if its the same maybe media center is to blame....

however there is something odd going on there, because that capture has obvious signs of compression when compared to the tiff from the website
 
I displayed it using photo viewer, admittedly it had to be converted to .jpg first but at maximum settings it is visually indifferent to the .tif.

Here is the same test chart capture over HDMI but originating from the DVI port on my PC.

 
Gran Turismo is 1280x1080, it's stupid to call it 1080P.

It would be like saying 320x720 is still 720P.

So then what is its name.

Its either, 720p, 1080i or 1080p.

Those are the possibilities, Unless you want to invent a new one just for GT5P :p It upscales to 1080p, much like GTA4 scales to 720p, when infact it's closer to 600 i believe

Keep in mind it also runs at 60fps at almost 1080p, thats pretty impressive considering how nicely it runs.

The name is taken from the vertical resolution. As its 1280x1080 progressive, its 1080p. Pretty obvious.

Congratulations have a gold sticker, when people in general refer to 1080P they are thinking of 1920x1080, this is common knowledge.

Who gives a flying **** if a game renders at 1280x1080? It's barely any different to 1280x720, when PS3 fanboys brag about having a game that runs at 1080P native they are getting boners over the thought that the game runs at 1920x1080

But yes, I know that technically it counts as 1080P, but gamers are throwing the term around as if it's full blown 1920x1080.
