if I have a DDR2 1066 mhz chip crashing at 5-5-5-15-2T @ 1066mhz but not at 5-5-5-18-2T @ 800mhz ( this is leaving the CPU alone ) am I doing something wrong???

I want to keep this thread simple... and I'm no overclocking experting and I don't do overclocking either.... again I DON'T DO OVERCLOCKING... yet... :p

point is... do I need to do something to the CPU area ( like increasing FSB or something ) to get my ram to run at 5-5-5-15-2T @ 1066mhz?

specs

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 7750+ Black Edition 2.70GHz ( waiting for the AMD Phenom II X4 955 )

RAM: Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-8500C5 TwinX Dual Channel ( only have 1 plugged in the first slot closest to the cpu socket as the other module is faulty... waiting for my Kingston ram )

Motherboard: Asus Crosshair II Formula ( BIOS 1602 )

thanks

forget to mention I have tried both auto and manual settings when it comes to the ram and set the cpu area to "Standard" and "Auto" and made no difference.

what you mean? theres numerous other people ( googling ) with this board and ram... ( don't know about people with 1 module plugged in though ) and they seem ok and this ram is in Asus Qualified Vendor List ( so is the kingston ram I ordered recently aswell )

if thats what you mean then I'm going to say yeah

in that case all i can think of is a hardware failure. Either the motherboard or the RAM. It's easier to test with new RAM first to see if that is your issue. If you experience the same problems then you'd need a new mobo.

Far more obvious solution than that. Check the voltage your ram is rated to run 1066 at, and set the voltage in the bios to match.

Your board may well set 1.8V as default, while your ram needs 2.0V or 2.1V to run at full speed.

forgot to mention that aswell, yes they are set correctly.

tried 2.100 ( supported by the chips ), 2.120 and 2.200 and tried auto ( was set correctly when auto )

got my kingston ram running at 1066mhz 5-5-5-15-2T at 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 volts with no errors... so I guess the board don't like the corsair ram :s....

thanks anyways
