Inno3D 8800GT with no fan control?

I got an Inno3D 8800GT from ebay to put in my 'spare' pc. However the fan on it runs at 100% all the time, and rivatuner doesn't give any options to change the fan speed. The thing runs hot as well, 60C at idle and hits 100C when using the fur benchmark, this is with stock clocks 600/900MHz.

A bit of googling suggests that some cards don't come with the chips to control the fans anymore (leadtek and inno3d were the suspects), can any one confirm this?

If this is the case i will probably end up getting an akasa vortexx cooler.

Yeah, I have a pair of XFX 8800GT's the same, 100% fan speed all the time and no method of control. Was going to watercool them anyway otherwise I'd have sent them back. Crazy noisy :(

Thanks for the confirmation.

The thing that annoys me, is that after reading what seems like every review of 8800 type cards in the last 2 years, not one mentioned fans that constantly run at 100%. It seems like the first cards released could be adjusted, but later ones had small heatsinks and fast fans in an effort to cut costs.

Just as well OCUK has a good price on the vortexx.

I have an Inno3D 8800gt which i bought 14 months ago, and the fan on it is fine on mine. Pretty hot card though, so i replaced the stock cooler with the Accelero Twin Cooler :)
Load temps dropped by 25c+

I was using an inno3d 8800gts and the fan was working normally so there must be sth wrong with your card.

Thats what i thought at first, but rivatuner didn't have any options to control the fan. Looking around the rivatuner forums I found others have had the same problem and the devs there said that some cards don't come with the fan control circuits.

My card looks different from the pics in reviews of the first Inno3d 8800gt's released at the end of 2007. The older ones look like reference cards with an inno3d sticker, but mine doesn't have a shroud on the HSF, just an exposed fan on the heatsink.

I haven't decided between the akasa vortexx or the accelero yet, but anything would be better than whats on it now.
