Social events with lecturers

Slightly off topic Burnsy but I was sometimes a bit of a miscreant at school and would sometimes find myself outside the deputy head's office for a caning.

I often see that same deputy head in my local watering hole and it is a pleasure to catch up and have a pint with him.

I had a pretty good relationship with my undergrad lecturers, some of them were a good laugh and always see them around here and there. My postgrad lecturers are superb and some are hilariously eccentric, been for drinks after some big projects, end of term dinners, social events etc and it's quite fun:)

Completely depends on the lecturer. If you're going to get on with someone then you're going to get on, lecturer or not. I've had quite a laugh with some of my lecturers/seminar leaders over the year.

It aint all that bad, depends on teh lecturer tho.
Some of the lecturers at uni, not a chance.

Couple of them I've gotten to know and am actually quite friendly with and have got completely demolished with before.

Hadn't realised the time, If I dont finish this goddamn writing I dont think they'll be wanting to go for a drink tomorrow lol xD

EDIT: Jesus wept my typing is atrocious, at least word has a spellchecker

It depends who the lecturer is and what the social event is.
This.

I've seen one of my lecturers absolutely bungalowed. He had a bottle of wine in each jacket pocket and a glass in each hand :D
Ah, the classic "nutty professor". IMO the best Professors are always the ones who really know their stuff but have lost a marble or three and are both willing and able to blow things up for no other reason than just because they can. :D

Sadly, as a computery type, there was no blowing stuff up (well, not deliberately), but I got on rather well with a few of my lecturers and could be found regularly in their office chatting about random stuff. There were of course an equal number of the antisocial types, and the odd idiot who had no right to be there (one of them demanded proof when the whole class knew he was talking out his backside - he got his proof and I don't recall seeing him again).

There was one lecturer at uni who thought he was still a student. Was always in the union bar and often seen in the evenings. Was a nice fella as well.

Think too many people see them similar to teachers ie not human. In the 6th form at the end of every year one teacher always took us to the pub

We really only did it once, at the end of final year we had a mini film festival with BBC reps etc. in attendance to showcase our work. Afterwards, the uni paid for free wine and snacks for half the day.

Even our faculty receiptionist was wasted. I remember her talking to us about the films and said to me "Oh...are you the one who made that one with all the blood?", "Yes", "Okay....you can hand your work in ANY TIME." Made me laugh.

After that we hit the local Wetherspoons with our tutor and took the **** out of him for most of the evening. Was good fun, nobody saw our lecturers/tutors in any lower light but also learned that they're certainly capable of having fun.

I had a fair few fieldtrips with the lecturers and I'm not one to shy away from harassing them when they're vulnerable. :p

The course was made 100x better once you got to know the lecturers in my opinion. Even had one bloke buy me a pint when I was doing my Advanced Fieldwork in Prague a while back. :)

I would definitely do it with a few of my lecturers, others I wouldn't even want to be seen with in public!
