This looks to me like one of the best savings accounts around just now. I've filled both mine and my wifes ISA this year and last (with Natwest), and have £10,000 to put away just now - I may need the money in 6 months to buy a property so don't want to lock it away.

From what I've read Ulster Bank are fully protected by the FSA. Anyone know otherwise? Or know of any better instant access savings accounts?

I was looking at these as well as my Abbey bonus term is expiring shortly. The online banking demo looks pretty good - the Abbey Web interface is the one thing that makes me reluctant to jump ship so I'm almost sold on the idea :)

They're awful, I had an account with them for a few years, most unhelpful bunch ever. Mum also had a few business accounts with them, closed them though and switched to Barclays, the staff at Ulter Bank are seriously unhelpful, you have to just through hoops to get them to do anything for you.

Your choice of course, but don't say you weren't warned. :)

It would appear that the primary method of servicing the account is online, which might negate that?

I've had an account with them for years, always found them to be helpful at my branch anyway :) You need your overdraft extended again???? Ok how much? :D

The savings account looks pretty good but i dont have a minimum of £10,000 lying around unfortunately...

Edit - And their online interface is excellent.

Thanks for the info - My own bank (Natwest) offered me something like 1.1%! So the Ulster is a far better rate. I think I'll go with them for now :)

Not for me. My local branch are extremely helpful and always give you advise on the best way to save money. Maybe its just your local branch that sucks?

Since its really under the RBS branch I can confirm from my RBS account that the online banking service is pretty darn good.

Probably one of the better services I've used, just very clean and easy to use.
