I got on fine with my lecturers. They're people, they know stuff, they're not authority - uni is very different to school![]()
Though you always get some lecturers who you just want to strangle

Never did it as an undergrad, and then found it incredibly unnerving when I started being invited round for dinner during my PhD. First time I drank too much over dinner and fell asleep on his sofa and he had to drive me home![]()
I had a fair few fieldtrips with the lecturers and I'm not one to shy away from harassing them when they're vulnerable.
The course was made 100x better once you got to know the lecturers in my opinion. Even had one bloke buy me a pint when I was doing my Advanced Fieldwork in Prague a while back.![]()
When a small group of us (5) went away to do our independent fieldwork last summer a couple of our lecturers came out to see us for a couple of days, cue everyone getting drunk off the lecturers pockets to the point a couple of them couldn't stand up properly.![]()
We were quite a small campus and used to drink with our lecturers. They were quite a cool bunch and used to join in with all sorts of stuff and shag the girls for extra marks etc.
Would you have ever gone on a social event with one of your uni lecturers whilst still at uni as an undergrad?
I've done this before and it's a bit weird to start off with but actually quite fun to see them in a different light. I'm now organising a Curry and Star Trek evening once it's released. I've talked to some of my lecturers and they said that they think it's a good thing as it helps students who go on to do PhDs to work with them as peers more than authority figures.
So would you feel uncomfortable doing this? Would you do it at all?
Ive done it and really enjoyed it!
