I sent an OCZ Elitexstream 1000W back under warranty and they have contacted me to say they have none in stock but will offer me a PC Power and Cooling 860W with a full warranty as a replacement.

My question is do you think this is a fair deal?

I am losing 140W of PSU (although I don't need it) and until recently the OCZ was £40 more expensive (the difference is now only £12.

I guess they are offering a new 7 warranty as compensation.

My biggest concern apart from the above is that OCZ Elitexstream was silent in my watercooled rig yet the PCP&C PSU only has a small fan at the rear. Is this psu as quiet?

I need to give an answer quickly so prompt responses greatly appreciated.

Yes its a good deal, PC P&C have much better build quality than OCZ, Id say go for it, I have the 750 Silencer in my system and cant hear it

Thanks. I know that PC Power have a great rep but the silence issue still worries me. Your 750 silencer has a 120mm fan but this turbo model only has a rear 80mm fan so it should be louder than years.

The noise levels are in general not as annoying as we remember from the 1200W version of this series, but they are clearly audible.

However, the Turbo-Cool 860W PSU unit proved to be quieter than its big brothers, especially at low to mid power levels with relatively cool ambient air temperatures. Noise probably won’t be an issue for most high-end gaming systems but I wouldn’t use this PSU for a quiet build HTPC. If you want a quiet power supply, then look to one of PC Power & Cooling’s Silencer series units.

I would say take it; it's a better PSU, and if it's too noisy, sell it and get something else.

I do agree it does appear to be a cracking PSU. I just feel a bit miffed they are technically offering me a cheaper and less powerful psu as a replacement.

It's not my fault P & PC only make 860W and 1200W psu's now with nothing in the 1000W range and OCZ only top out at 850W in a far lesser model (gamestream)

I always thought they should offer the next model up. Perhaps I am being too picky.

OCZ sent me the 860W PC power and cooling back from an 800W elitexstream rma. The 860W is tiny, even shorter than the last model was. It does indeed only have one tiny fan, but I'm sure they know what they're doing here. The psu looks nails at least, and I'm pretty sure my case fans are louder. PC not running at present until issues with ssd are resolved, so hard to check this

I would snap it up. It's a far better psu.

In what regards? In reviews it doesn't come out as good as the OCZ Elitexstream in voltage ripple and fan noise. The same review sites tend to give the OCZ top award and the PC power as a slightly less award.

It's less wattage and its a £30 cheaper psu?

I paid £180 for the OCZ for its numerous top awards (over 20), rock solid 12v rail and almost non existant voltage ripple.

This enabled me to overclock my cpu higher than my previous psu. Just worried the alternative will not be as good.

Pc Power and Cooling is a much better quality PSU. The OCZ isn't bad, but the PC P&C is 2nd best in quality, only beaten by the Seasonic for overall top component quality.

Thanks Ace, I have sent an email back to them saying I will accept an 860W ESA. I might was well get a bit extra from them ;)

I am only being fussy as I thought my OCZ was ace but I guess OCZ pulled them because of the failure rate which seems very high. Shame cause they are one hell of a good psu IMO.

Update: I actually wrote them quite a long email about that they should be offering a replacement of equal of better specs (ignoring which is the better build etc).

Anyway today they have offered me a £150 credit note to spend at ocuk since their new 1000W psu's aren't out until June.:D

Anybody think this is the best course of action?

If so which psu would you buy with your £150?

Could always buy the initial PSU offered to you, and leave yourself £13 to treat yourself to something or put towards something.

is there a uk telephone number as their support number for europe is now disconected :( need to contact them as they dont reply to my rma request.
