Was wondering the same thing before I enter my code. And just enter details and then cancel as soon as it's activated and you'll never need to worry about getting charged.
Edit: After taking 10 attempts to remember the answer to my secret question it turns out you can't use it to reactivate an old account.

Out of curiosity, what are the servers like in general?
I.e in WOW (Before they shifted them all off to their own realms), you'd get mass communities (Mainly Eastern European / Russian) all on one server which made gameplay rather crap if you happen to find yourself there. Does this happen in LOTRO?

When I played LotRO the community seemed to be pretty good, mainly speaking in English and generally very helpful.
The European servers are clearly marked by language - french, german and so on. The english servers are (iirc) Snowbourn, Evernight, Laurelin (RP). There might be another one too.
The Laurelin community is excellent, and you don't need to RP, but expect to get heavily smacked down if you act the ass / come up with an out of character name.

I'll be on later then when I've finished work and thought of a more apt name.

I had a dwarf called 'Numpty' and no-one seemed to have any objection (and all he did whilst his party members fought was played 'The A-team' music on a harp he bought).

On the plus side you could always still have a character called azzkicker, just on one of the other 4 english servers ! Where theres a will, theres a way !

Just to take the thread OT slightly, I quite liked playing a Warrior in WOW (Arms or Fury so more damage dealing rather than tanking). Looking at the roles Guardians/Wardens seem to be Tanks and Champion would be the closest thing to a damage dealing warrior?
