However this to me seems completely pointless. If it were me i'd let the current policy expire and then when you come back from wherever you are going start a new policy.
However since your current policy conveniently expires a week after you go away it makes total sense to start a new policy when you get back and not to pay the 5 weeks or whatever purely for convenience.

It's not like he's abandoning his car on the street. Presumably it will be in his locked garage at his parents house who will still be home as normal and thus the chances of someone stealing his car today are the same as within that 6 week window.

If that was my car I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing it wasn't protected. Yes it's a small risk, possibly the most remote and unlikely risk but it is still a risk. For the sake of a few weeks it certainly isn't worth not having it insured. Please reconsider![]()
