Anyone 'suspended' an insurance policy?

However this to me seems completely pointless. If it were me i'd let the current policy expire and then when you come back from wherever you are going start a new policy.

This was my first plan but being without a car for a week will be particularly annoying. It's been years since I had to rely on my parents activities in order to borrow the car or get a lift :p

Therefore if policy suspension, as it seems, a valid option it seems very convenient.

However since your current policy conveniently expires a week after you go away it makes total sense to start a new policy when you get back and not to pay the 5 weeks or whatever purely for convenience.

If that were the case I agree, but it expires a week before.

Stealing modern cars without the keys is difficult unless you've got a flatbed truck. Thats an awful lot of hassle to go to steal a car like mine.

Where will the V5c be? An increasingly common method is to steal that, make like you sold the car to them, then order a key at a dealer. If keys can be ordered to fit your car this is.

I'd just pay the renewal and let it run.

It's only 6 weeks - you've had a good quote. You're only really losing £57 of insurance or so in reality in these 6 weeks, and you have piece of mind just in case..

It's not like he's abandoning his car on the street. Presumably it will be in his locked garage at his parents house who will still be home as normal and thus the chances of someone stealing his car today are the same as within that 6 week window.

This.

Agreed, as long as someone's home.

Has anyone ever stolen a diesel car?

A better solution would be to win an election and put car thieves in prison. I hate the government adverts about how not to be a target. "How about you people stop making TV and do your job". :D

Personally I'd want the peace of mind in just renewing as normal and having the car insured whilst away, particularly for 6 weeks. However if you're happy leaving it uninsured whilst you're out of the country then it sounds like you're onto a winnner.

If that was my car I wouldn't be able to sleep at night knowing it wasn't protected. Yes it's a small risk, possibly the most remote and unlikely risk but it is still a risk. For the sake of a few weeks it certainly isn't worth not having it insured. Please reconsider :(

You really wouldnt be able to sleep at night for worry that your 1998 Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec of FAIL may get boosted?

edit: this post is non-negotiable

He was talking about Fox's car.

And besides, who cares what car he drives? He may care about it enough that yes, his Fiesta getting stolen would be a big deal.

Edit: Beaten by bold red underlined writing.

When I had to suspend my MoreThan insurance after my vRS got flooded they operated on the basis that you get refunded on the time suspended rather than move the end date. However, they only offer a refund after 30 days have elapsed :o Thankfully, got 7 days free insurance when I bought my replacement Ford Focus which helped me over the 30 day period :p
